Subject: Are Britney and Madonna on the same level?

Written By: Saider_E. on 11/01/03 at 08:40 p.m.

A couple of people have told me that it is impossible to put Britney on the same level as Madonna, but I don't see any difference between them. They both can dance, neither one of them can sing (Me Against The Music is proof of that), they both are contraversial sex-wise, and they are both the top sellers of their time. So isn't Britney the modern Madonna or am I the only one who thinks so?

They are on the same level....they both suck. Unfortunately, everyone buys their stuff, which makes them top sellers. It just doesn't make them talented. :P

If you are talking about them both being sluts, then yes, they are the same.

Britney is the Madonna of this era.

In the 80s there was Madonna pushing the limits, and Britney is doing it now.  She cant sing worth a crap.  But, she has the body to make up for what she lacks in talent (thanks to silicone).

I have to hand it to Britney's management team though (sarcastically), they obviously planned it all out from the very beginning:  Play her off as an innocent "bad" girl, then gradually transform her into more and more of a slut.   ::)  I guess since she's still into it and taking the paychecks, she must not care much that most people view her as the slut she is.

I don't look at image, really.  I like music because it sounds good, not because the artist is hot.

That said, Madonna's music was at the very least tolerable, whereas Britney's music needs to go away.

About the language police: the messageboard has autocensors for certain words, it's just the way it is :)

80s rocked, have you notice they didn't replace the s-word the first time, but they did the second time. Maybe time for a software update for the moderator. :-/

nevertheless, it was created by a person.  Its just funny how the word that was "censored" was just a different version of the same word that was allowed 2 other times in my post.

That word:  Slut. :)

Exactly.

Much ado about nothing.  In my opinion.

Its not like I am saying the F word or another 4-letter word.   ::)

My point was that the software replaced the word in the last sentence but not the first one. To us, it would be nothing. To Chucky or Hairspray though, it would make them scratch their heads.  ;)

I find their teaming up interesting, as they both so obviously wish they were each other.  Madonna wants to be Britney (ie: young, in her prime of life and in the peak of popularity) and Britney wants to be Madonna (ie: an artist with longevity, cultural significance and an allotment of actual talent).

I'd like to see Britney try to raise Madonna's two kids while Madonna is booed and jeered offstage by the smarter music fanship. ;D

I'm not understanding where their success came from. I just feel there are a lot more deserving artists out there then the two of them. And neither one of them (to me) are the best looking things. So it's like HOW? Who are the people buying their albums. It really upsets sets me. :'( What happened to real performers topping the charts?

In the sense that they both suck, yes.  I can't stand either one of them and wish they would quietly disappear.

oh cummon, thats an easy one. :D

Its simple:  Sex Sells.

And both Britney and Madonna used that method to further their careers.  I mean they even joined forces and played "tonsel hockey" on national TV.  Be honest, when you think of both Madonna and Britney, what comes to mind?  Their sexual image, or their crappy music?

I don't think either of them are living on the same planet as me.

Madonna was a good artist who at least had some good songs in her career. I don't see Britney in the same league as Madonna. Britney has recorded 2 decent songs in her career: "Baby One More Time" and "Sometimes" and thats basically it. All their rest of the rest of her songs are throwaways. Britney's marketing team is genius I'll give them that. Britney won't last past this year in her music career. Madonna teamed up with Britney so Madonna could keep her "rep" up if you will. Britney's last record sold 4 million. Her first record sold 12 million. Keep in mind she released 3 albums in 3 years in her career so sales tally's of her album's went dramitically down. I think Madonna's last good year was 1994-1995 when she released "Bedtime Stories". There are differences in between the two and how they started their careers. Madonna in the early 80's went to New York City with no money and how to start her career from the bottom. Britney in the meanwhile was on "Mickey Mouse Club". However I think time has passed Madonna by. Britney: the marketing team she has paved the way for her.

I totally agree! Not everyone who is rich has talent, but look at the way the rich kids from prestigious schools win scholarships for the arts. Which leads me to think that popularity can have something to do with your talent, but most often it's how rich you are, or how pretty\handsome you are, or how sexually explicit you are\aren't. That isn't fair.

OK, getting off my soapbox now.
Anyway, yes, Britney could very possibly be the next Madonna!

I like a great deal of Madonna's music, and this is what comes to mind when I think of Madonna.  This may be because I don't particularly care for or about Madonna's sexual image.  I try to tune it out.

Thats fine.  I don't agree though.

Growing up in the 80s, I remember Madonna for one thing:  and its not her music. ;)

As for her recent attempts at music, snore city.

On topic:

Both "chicklets" are on the same level alright. :P

The only difference is that Madonna's older, her talent's gone, she's used-up and out of tricks.

Brittney is a poor copy-cat who lacks the true talent to pull anything off on her own, in her own right. Thus, she will not have the longevity in her career as Madonna. Plus, she fails to produce anything of interest to anyone aside from the hormone-induced crowd, so how can she endure?

Nah I'll have to say that Britney and Madonna are Not on the same level. Madonna does not make me wanna throw up!
Britney lost me after "Hit me Baby(one more time)".
Her initials say everything...BS.
I must add that Madonna has dissapointed me with her latest stuff though.

I don't think Britney will ever achieve Madonna's highest level of fame, but I don't think right now Madonna is at Britney's level. I think Madonna needs Britney more than Britney needed Madonna. If that makes any sense.

I've heard similar quotations that Britney is this generation's Madonna.  However, there is a slight but crucial difference; Madonna has a sub-genius IQ level and whether you like her or not, she has excellent marketing skills.  Britney... well.. <shrug> what can I say?  ???  I think it's funny many people have forgotten that parents used to praise her during her first album because she promoted and symbolized a clean "nice girl" image (I think her album cover was of her in a sweater looking cute).  Boy have things changed, eh.  ;)

Personally, I don't listen to Britney's music... because i'm too busy looking at her body!!  ;D
