Subject: Who used to be cool but isnt anymore

A couple of people come to mind Phil Collins was the man in the 80s.The man had such intensity and soul with "Air of Night","Dont Care Anymore"etc.,etc.But now all he does is soft rock elevator music and scores for Disney movies.Another is Eddie Murphy who was funny in the 80s when he was dirty. Now hes "Mr. Family Entertainment" and isnt funny at all.

Whitney Houston. She seemed so cool and together in the 80s and even in the early 90s, but from what I've heard, she sounds like a mess.

Billy Crystal was funny in When Harry Met Sally and Throw Momma From the Train.
He is rather played out now.

Another one is the show Friends.  Really played out.

James Caan

He seems so extreme anymore. It seems like it started when he made "Of Blood And Bones".......Great movie tho.

How about Boy George?  Even though he was a freak with that girl look, he was still bearable to watch.  After seeing him on VH1 last month with that painted on crap, I can't see why I ever liked his music.

Then again there is always Pee-Wee Herman.  He just changed careers from performing in movies to performing in movie theatres.

Then there is Sean Penn.  After doing such hits as Taps and Fast Times, he got married and lost his career.

There is always MC Hammer.  I still expect to see his face on a carton of milk.

Madonna

She was cool in her early career, in the 1980's. She had raw talent and managed it successfully. She was cool in the way she danced, the way she dressed with her own original and awesome sense of style; her videos were a regular "must see".

I think the way Madonna handled her controversial exposure in the 1980's was rather tame in comparison to the "in your face" cheap, ssslutiness of Britney Spears and the ilk of today. Now, even Madonna can't keep-up with today's tawdriness to the degree to which she finds herself joining in the low-class spectacle, further degrading her fading image.

Alas, Madonna's time has passed.

Madonna may have her sporadic day in the sun, but she is no longer cool, in my opinion.

Madonna hasn't been cool with the youth culture, as in "really cool" and cutting edge, since 1987.  Now she still had some cool and hip qualities from 1988 to 1992, during her Like a Prayer and Vogue period, but she was already fading away.  I think 1992 was when she realeased that sex book of hers or whatever it was.  But in my opinion she's been yesterday's news, (with the youth culture) since 1993.

But your post proved a point of mine that I made in another thread when I brought up Madonna and the double standard applied to Britney and Christina.  You know that Madonna acted just as "ssslutty" back in the 80's as anyone else around today, actually more then anyone around today.  But you liked her music back in the days, and now you're older and you can't admit to the fact that you liked women that bucked the rules and acted cheap because you feel the pressure of setting a good example to the kids around today.

Madonna liked to tick off mainstream conservative America, as so many muscians love to do.  And Madonna acted a whole lot worse then Britney or Christina or whoever.  It's all about intentionally making mainstream conservative America angry and selling lots of albums and getting a lot of press.  She knew that people like the dual image of woman, i.e., the innocent school girl and the wh*re of Babylon.

I agree with Hairspray regarding Madonna. I think she went down the pan since 'Vogue' in 1990. Today she is pulling out the stops and it all reeks of desperacy - where does it all go from here?

I know that?  ???

I simply said:

I think the way Madonna handled her controversial exposure in the 1980's was rather tame in comparison to the "in your face" cheap, ssslutiness of Britney Spears and the ilk of today.

Madonna was no angel, but she wasn't quite to the level of crass as today's "pop tarts". Keep in mind I'm speaking of 1980's Madonna and that this is simply my opinion.

Did I say all that or are you making assumptions? Yeap, you're assuming an awful lot.

Quoting:Madonna acted a whole lot worse then Britney or Christina or whoever.End Quote

That is simply a matter of opinion, yours, of course.

By the way, I don't think I've proven any point of yours.

Hmm . . . Nice analysis Howard.  ::)

With Madonna she had that girl next door look - she was naughty but there was a sense of innocence at the same time. Of course, that's not there anymore . . .

I agree that Madonna is simply yesterday's trash.  I mean, other than having some sort of live sex show on Pay-per-View with Shaq and Kobe, what more can she do to "shock" people?

On the other hand, I think that Slutina Fatulera will be cool for many years to come, simply because she has that awesome voice.  Gee... what an unusual idea... a singer who actually has a great voice!  :P  I hope that she soon ends her slutty phase though.

Ted Nugent was cool until he said crap about Kurt Cobain on "Rockline" saying he was glad Kurt died. But what he said about Courtney Love IS true.

Also en passe:
Burt Reynolds
Liza Minnelli
Diana Ross
Woody Allen
Drew Barrymore
Sly Stallone
And the Governator!

Aerosmith used to be cool and than they got on stage with Britney Spears. My respect for them kinda went down after that.

Micheal Jackson used to be cool but now his life is a mess.
