Subject: Polar Bear Dies

Quoting:Hogle Zoo is mourning the loss of their only polar bear this morning. They are hoping the death of the bear raises awareness about zoo safety. An animal autopsy shows 14 year old Andy ate an adult sized glove. Veterinarians say the glove got lodged in the bears' intestine, causing it to rupture. Zoo officials think the glove was thrown by a visitor, probably in an attempt to get the polar bear to move.

(Posted the story because it is a local news website and it will probably disappear)

This makes me so angry.  Andy was our only polar bear and some idiot tosses a glove in the cage and he dies.  Will people ever learn? >:(

No. People need to understand that a zoo isn't there for us, it's a scientific and research facility that just happens to be open to the public. Sure I get disappointed when the tiger's always asleep in the far corner of the cage whenever I go to the zoo, but he's not there to put on an act for me. I can only hope that whoever did this stupid thing read the article and feels incredibly responsible for their action.

I like polar bears.  :-[
