Subject: Chucky G, what other site do you manage?

Written By: annieox03 on 12/12/03 at 10:40 p.m.

I was just curious to know what other site you have out there? I've seen a couple mentioned, but lost the board it was on. Thanks.

Grow-Ven-Or is a close phonetic spelling (without using those funky pronouncation letters dictionaries use)

I thought "Gros-ven-or" sounded a little cluttered.  Thanks for clearing that up. :)

There's a pub in Perth called the Grosvenor. The DJ who announces the bands that are playing there always pronounces it as "Groz-venor". I've told him he's wrong, but he keeps doing it.

It's a French root, IIRC - as in "Gros" meaning big and from "venir", meaning "to come"... so Grosvenor would be one who...maybe I'd better not carry on ;-)

yup, all the Grosvenor's in America are related to one another. One of my not-too-distant relations actually created a large mill in Thompson Connecticut, and there is now a small unincorpated section called Grosvenordale.  I'm also directly related to the Alexander Bell family, my grandmother tells me he even visited the family house up the street from me. (The Bell biography I own was also written by a Grosvenor).

I'm not certain about the relation to the wealthy Grosvenor families in England though. According to the geneology book on the family name, there's no relation (either that, or it's so distant, no one can find the link anymore).  I actually collect stuff with the family name on them though.  There's a small amount of products with the name Grosvenor somehow connected with them.  I have a large street sign from Grosvenor Sq. in England in my kitchen, and a bunch of postcards from the hotel chains.

I should probably write this stuff up better at some point and stick it on my chuckyg site, the problem that arises though is people start asking "do you know who I'm related to" type questions, (I think I have a very terse message about it on my email page because I started getting them quite a bit). I researched the family name at one point a little bit, but lost interest in it as I got busy with other endeavours.

it's also the nickname given to William the Conqueror's nephew (though it appears that individual is not in the bloodlines).

I took it for a few years in high school, but I never could speak it very well, and haven't in so long, I dare saw I can understand it all at this point.

no, it probably means the sites would go away. I own 'em and they're kinda duct taped together with little scripts that I doubt many people would take the time to figure out.  So if something happens to me, I guess the sites go bye-bye
