Subject: 00s v.s. 90s

Written By: prodigy on 01/08/04 at 05:46 p.m.

Personally I like the 90s better, better music, styles, and everything.

Better technology has changed are ways of life, I dont see a kid in the park no more at all, they just sit at home on the net... and also they are growing up way faster.

Before there was high top fades (which looks pretty coo) now cornrows (its okay)

Everybody in the 90s liked nintendo and watched good shows (Beverly Hills 90210, Fresh Prince, MTv raps,etc....unlike todays reality stuff)Now there is so much variety in gamees...not every1 likes games....stupid shows like Jacka*s, Wild Boys, are dumb, I dont know how we get entertained by it.
Clothes were simpler back then..just jeans and a shirt,,,now ppl are wearing 10 layers of stuff, each shirt is thick and stuff.
Ppl are wearing heandbands just for the look.
The music was way better, u had pearl jam, nirvana, and real rap. Unlike today we have weird ass rock, sounds like noise, and the rap is totally messed up, talking about money, and their possessions and hollering, with a messed up beat in the background.
Music videos way better, had variety. Now adays got girls with butts sticking 7 in. away from their backs and 10 guys iwth 17 jerseys hollering showing their necklaces, when back then hip hop was more creative, while they ACTUALLY DANCED!! Movies were way better, with Dumb and Dumber, Pulp Fiction, T2,....Now adays u just got crazy special effects, no plot, no actin, nada. Shows are vulgar, no more Family shows, like Cosby.
SPORTS....was way better....ppl played ball when they had the chance...unlike today...ppl whine about their clothes getting messed up or sweating...The Nfl had better matchups, and quarterbacks. The NBA was filled with exciting matchups with Michael Jordan, and MAgic. Comic books and card collecting was popular, and now kids just growing up to fast, worrying bout their cell phones. There were better fads back then. Maybe everything seems cooler when looked back upon, but 90s were coo'.

Huh?
IMHO, every decade has its good and bad parts..its a matter of taste..Beverly Hills 90210 ::)? Awful show, no offense but I can't imagine anyone I knew (with a IQ) that watched this, ditto Fresh Prince. Today's TV vulgar, yes, but Married with Children (90's show) is and was just as vulgar as any now or before...ditto Ren & Stimpy, there were many more.
Clothes are a matter of personal style & function, I still wear t-shirt & jeans now.
Never could stand Pearl Jam, IMHO I always thought they were overrated. There are plenty of good music today, BRMC, PJ Harvey, Radiohead, White Stripes, Masive Attack...you just gotta look somewhere else than MTV or commercial radio.
Everything looks rosier when you look back... :)

Actually, while I wasn't interested in watching 90210, I used to love watching Fresh Prince.  I hope it comes out to DVD though.  Then the 'SuperStation' can stop playing it so much :P

I don't think the 90s were too great, but I know they were better than this decade!

^People to tend to look back on years past through rose tinted glasses and sugar coat everything.

It's just a natural behavior.  Did every kid in the 50's obey their parents and never use bad language?  Ofcourse not.  Were people magically more moral and wholesome 40 or 50 years ago?  What made humanity, after existing for thousands and thousands of years suddenly become so corrupt and evil in a span of a mere 40 some odd years?

People just like to view the "good ol' days" as somehow being less problamatic and chaotic then the present.  It's always that way.

Good music came on commercial radio back then....What about the part about the kids goin up too fast....and the sports section.

IMHO commercial radio has always been pretty poor just by definition, you aren't going to hear all thats out there. Can't agree that there was better or "good" music on commercial radio back then until we agree on what music is good, and I'll opt out of that, because its a matter of tase. There was some good stuff, Nirvana, and some bad, Hanson or Spice Girls..

As to kids growing up to fast i.e. cell phones, well thats better than having to worry about getting shot or killed at school (Columbine and many other tragic school shootings took place in the 90's)...not that they still don't have to worry about that..kids (& adults) had to worry for the 1st time about crack, crank & extasy in the 90's. Each older generation thinks the new generation of kids grow up to fast..but don't remember the trials and tribulations they went through themselves..
Sports, yes there was MJ and Magic (and his AIDS confession), we still have Shaq & Kobe (with his current problems...
Anyway, I'm saying its cool to like the 90's, I like them too, but remember that that time period had it's share of down sides too, we're only 4 years into this decade yet, lets see what happens..

00's vs 90's:

Its not the same thing. The 90's was much more fun. Stuff started to go down the can in 99 with teen-pop. Then we had Enron, Sept 11th, Reality Tv, the economic reccession.

Yeah somebody mentioned the basketball and match-ups. You had the Bulls-knicks, Pacers-Kinicks, Jazz-Sonics. Those match-ups were good. I still like Basketball but I"m not crazy about it like I used to be.

Today: I like players like Allen Iverson and Jason Kidd. The Kings-Lakers and Kings-Spurs, and Kings-Mavs are the matchups to watch now.

Football: Its fun to watch now. Every team has a shot. 10 years ago it was alright but its better now.

As far as 90's TV shows go I used to watch "Step By Step", "Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Hangin With Mr. Cooper, Family Matters,Seinfeld and sometimes a little "Home Improvement". Caught a little NYPD Blue when it was really good when Jimmy Smits was on the show.

Todays shows: :Without A Trace, and CSI: Miami, look good(when I see them that is.) Also watch "Hack" and "The District" on Saturdays. Don't really catch weekday shows. To me TV doesn't offer you alot of selection of shows like it used to. Shows come and go these days.

So the only thing thats better than the 90's is football. That doesn't say alot. Well the car designs look better. At least you can tell one car from another nowadays unlike the late 90's where every car looked the same.

Crack was around for the 1st time in the 80's.

This is true, and the crux of the problem.  Each generation as they get older gets more crusty, more anal, more uptight about everything;...and starts to condem the next generation.  Then the younger generation laughs at the older generation for holding onto to something old and campy.  It's been that way since the caveman days.  Back in the 80's, the "adults" of that time put down the decade for being nothing but MTV style and glitz with little or no substance.  The 80's had nothing on the 50's and 60's it was said.  Kids were up to no good and hung out at the mall all day and did nothing but play Atari (in the early 80's) or Nintendo/Sega (in the mid and late 80's).

Quoting:Sports, yes there was MJ and Magic (and his AIDS confession), we still have Shaq & Kobe (with his current problems...End Quote

The Golden Age of the NBA was 1979 to 1999.  It started when Magic Johnson and Larry Bird first came into the league in the 1979-'80 season, and it ended when Michael Jordan retired from the Chicago Bulls in 1999.  Basically the 80's and 90's were the Golden Age.   There will NEVER be players around ever again like that.  It can't be planned, it just sorta happened.

In the 90's, people said the NBA in the 80's was way better anyway, the agrument being that the Lakers-Celtics-Pistons matchups were far more intersting then when the Jordan and Bulls played someone and just ran right over them.

I liked the 90's better, because the music was better Especially, IMO, from 1995 on), and you could actually find some good and NONVIOLENT TV. I have found a few good shows on, but they are few and far between. Lately, if I take an interest in a show, I sometimes discover violence or excessive cursing, and if I don't find either of those, it's usually for kids age 5 and under.

O.K. I give, I give..
I just thought that its bizzare how some have already judged the two decades (90's vs 00's).
I mean we've only had 3 years (and 10 days) of this decade yet, vs 10 years of another.

Are we all so pessimistic that we are ready to assume the future, the next 7years of this decade (that hasn't occured yet) cannot produce things, events, music, entertainment, sports figures, etc., that can't match or be better than things in the past? ???
I'm not sure about everyone else, but I try and hope for better things to come, just because the future isn't set yet in stone. :)

The best is yet to come...

In 10 years people will talk about how innocent and carefree the year 2004 was, and how back in 2004 kids could go out and play safely and nobody had to lock their doors back in '04.

Then they'll go on and on about how messed up 2014 is and how just plain evil the youth of that time are.  It's money in the bank that it will happen.  If it happened to the 80's and 90's, then it will happen to 2004.

I like the early 90s more than the late part of it. Music was alot more entertaining, and having fun. Less about trying to look and sound perfect in music videos, an issue that has really come up so far in 00s ::)

Who would have ever thought the 90's would win a popularity contest?  Just 4-5 years ago, people were talking about how terrible the 90's were.  The only way for the 00's to have kind words to be said about it is when the 00's become the past and it's like the year 2015 or something.
