Subject: Fads/Style of 2000s

Written By: JJay on 01/10/04 at 02:07 a.m.

Okay, I'm new to this place so sorry if this is already been stated.

ANyways... I was wondering if anybody could add some stuff that I have for a list of Fashion/Fads of 2000-2004.

2000: Boy Bands, tube tops, Abercrombie & Fitch, Scooters, Mellinium Merchandise,

2001: Preppy still in, Hip-Hop started getting more popular, and boy bands were kind of starting to fall apart. Patriotic craze after 9/11, Birkenstocks also started to get popular too ( at least in Texas).

2002: Punk, Emo, and Urban Hippster styles pop up in late '02, allong with Punk Rock becoming more popular.

2003: Trucker Hats, 70s "California Look" with Hollister spreading, converse are really popular, those pins that say "I Am Loved", Dickies, Pumas, iPods start to get really popular , those snowboot things that girls wear and look like they should be battling indians with Lewis and Clark.

Obviously not much can be said about 2004, since it's been  10 days into the year, but please add some other trends and anything that was popular in 2000-2003. On another note, what exactly are we going to call this decade, because the 90s (nineties), and 80s (eighties), but are we going to say two-thousands, or o's, or otts, or what? Anyways, thanks

To me a lot of fashions don't seem to have changed much since say 1996.

Sure some fashions have changed here and there, but honestly what is the real big difference in fashion between now and 1996?  This crazy obession with the 1970's is still around.  It's a retro craze that started as early as 1992, and now it's 2004 and women are still wearing those flared out bell bottoms and platform shoes.

I'm not sure about it being a fad but, I've noticed this over the last 3-4 years..whats with the ugly granny glasses frames that women wear nowadays?  ???
Y'know the type, narrow/small, cat-eye, ugly glasses frames, that are de rigor. Celebs were 'em, newscasters, any female on Tech TV..
I don't understand, its like the prettier the woman is, the uglier the frames she wears, why? Didn't we get rid of these ugly spinster frames in the late 50's early 60's for a reason? Truly unflattering on most any woman..they are not "cool", it makes women look like 65yr old my media center school librarian in grade school.
The frames are so small & the lenses so narrow, they're barely big enough to see through, they can't be getting any peripheral vision from these..I realize the "retro" look is in but, PLEASE put this fad to rest SOON.
Ladies, put grandmas frames away, and get some that actually complement, not contradict your face, please.

I think part of the '00s "style" is cell phones...most people at my school have them it seems...it's annoying really.

Well, it seems to me that these days most woman(not including myself) sort of like the "ugly" look. Even when it comes to clothing, or fashion. I've also noticed that people don't even match anymore when dressing up. For instance, they'll wear leopard print jeans, and a floral top. It's pretty funny.

But, I don't know...maybe it has to do with the desperate strive to be unique, lol. "Ugly" fads may have been a no-no decades ago, but today it's what's in style.

Yeah Cell Phones are definatly the big thing right now, with cameras and Mp3 players, soon they'll be playing movies and TV on cell phones, it's crazy. The thing it really gets me is that we can come with all this cool technology for cell phones, yet we still use 30 year old equipment for our country's electricity and it causes blackouts in the North-east, lol.

I don't know if they still have them, but they were really popular with the boy band craze in 2000, those "Hit Clips" things. You'd buy the palm sized stero, and little tiny Britney Spears, N*Sync, or CHrsitina "disks" and play them, I awalys thought those thing were such a joke.

8) 8)Cat-eye glasses or sunglasses are flattering on round faces like mine, but don't wear black ones if you're a redhead.I haven't seen the really narrow ones much however.Cheers!
