My thoughts exactly - but I aint that clever with smilies !!

He should have gotten the death penalty anyway (i mean the real death penalty - where death is the end result) so now he has saved the British taxpayers from paying for his upkeep.

We haven't had the death penalty in the UK since 1965!

Suicide seems a reasonable outcome.  I believe prison should only be used to keep the public safe and a dead man is no longer any threat.

Ah! But dead men can't appeal (which, unbelievably his legal team were planning on)...think of the poor impoverished lawyers!

True, but it's probably no cold comfort for the families of his victims not knowing why he did what he did...besides, we've got all our wonderful MP's to upkeep too!

It reminds me of the time serial killer Fred West committed suicide in his cell. I had mixed feelings about it.

I was happy that he has freed the taxpayer/victims from the burden of keeping him in prison but I thought that he has escaped justice. It is for that reason that I do not agree with capital punishment.

Speaking of Prison,

I have always believed that in America, conditions for Prisoners should be more Humane
Since the "War on Drugs" accomplishes nothing,
see the articles on www.libertocracy.com

Most people in Prison are their for Non-Violent drug offenses

Unless you put EVERY prisoner into solitary confinement, I do not know how you will make the prisons more "humane".  It is the prisoners themselves who make it inhumane, by beating up, killing, or buggaring their fellow prisoner.

But solitary brings its own set of psychological problems too.

Beretta said it best... "Don't do the crime if you can't do the time... don't do it!"

Yeah Perths last hanging was Eric Cooke (career criminal and serial killer) in October 64.  And I really like your final sentence - succinct and to the point.

Yes Bobby I agree that you get mixed feelings - especially with Fred because didnt he kill himself before the end of the courtcase ?  Leaving his equally awful wife to take on the entire sentencing.  So we are left thinking that he copped out - but at the same time he is dead and he will never torture and kill anyone else.

Believe me there are still a large group of mass killers and serial killers in Perth gaols who should not be allowed to have the luxury of a clean private room, a personal computer, tv and dvd player, and three meals a day.

If gaols were REALLY gaols then by all means lock them away for decades - but while they are better than your average hotel room and the only thing they dont have is freedom to wak the streets - then I will continue to vote for the death penalty.

Andrew - you have obviously never been a victim of crime or known someone who has.  Anyone I know who has been affected by rape or murder or even burglary - does not advocate for "more humane treatment of prisoners".

We all have choices in our lives.  Those who choose to break the law deserved to be punished - not mollycoddled.

I was having a joke with my girlfriend's son today. He has a cafeteria system at his school during lunchtime which means he has a set amount of 'money' to buy what he can. He said that you can only get a couple of sausage rolls and a drink. I said that prisoners get better meals than that. I remember when school meals were school meals . . .  ::)

Anyway I digress, I totally agree with Lyricboy and BrianMannixgirl.   :)
