Subject: Freaky, Ugly, Scary PBS Kids Show -

Written By: Hairspray on 01/20/04 at 12:57 a.m.

Believe me, the show itself is worse than it looks there in the link, in animated form. It's like Teletubbies on acid! :P And most of us know how awful those Teletubbies are.

The one perfectly normal kid I witnessed watching this tripe, was sitting in front of the TV extremely attentive, but also literally "spaced-out", drooling, motionless. :o This kid was sucked-in to the show to degrees of a serious nature. What's worse, the kid learned absolutely nothing while watching. I swear these types of shows are created to comatose children.

Has anyone had the unfortunate experience of witnessing this Kids show?

I was almost expecting the child to go into a seizure.

Opinions, anyone?

I clicked on the link, and I could get my three year old away from the computer!!  We played for about 30 minutes.

I'm lucky I've haven't actually seen the show, I don't think it's on my PBS station...yet.  It looks kind of creepy.

i haven't seen it because the name of it scared me too much.  "boohbah."  i mean, say it.  "boob-ah." sounds more like a different kind of show than a kiddie program... :o

Boobah? jeez, what's PBS come to? ::)

and I thought "Between The Lions" was a dumb title for a kids show on Channel 13 PBS. ::)

Boy, and I thought "Teletubbies" were inane.   ::) :P
What ever happened to GOOD kids' programming.

The only good and educational show on, for the past 13 years, PBS is "Arthur".  (Though I don't care much for PBS)

"Boobah"... Awful title too.  :P

Hairspray - that's not all !

I've had the misfortune of having enough time on my hands - and three year old kids around the computer - to search for Boohbah's official site - and if you think that's bad, you should see the Boohbah zone front page. (It's HERE if so). Enough to make anyone go a little weirded.

(I guess I should give a standard epilepsy warning, so, like all other standard epilepsy warnings, I shall.)

Attention: Chez certainez personnes, l'utilization de ce website nécessite des précautions d'emploo particuliére qui sont détailées dans la notice jointe.

(Obviously, like all warnings as such, it's always in French!)

And, as you guys already know, I have to give a nod to Arthur being one of the best kids shows in my non-kidhood.

Final point is, that as far as I'm aware, the person who created Boohbah is less than conscientious about young kids who may suffer epileptic seizures (I've been there myself!)

I think "Between The Lions" is pretty decent too because from the one or two episodes I've seen (while in the company of my nieces and nephews ;)), it teaches children how to read in a simple, fun and engaging way and reinforces lessons learned.

Agreed. :P

OMG!!  I was flipping channels earlier today while folding laundry and I forced myself to watch 5 minutes of this show.  I'm doing everything in my power to keep my kids OFF drugs, not show them what a "good trip" would be.  There is no way in Hades I would ever let them watch this.  I'm sure little ones are enthralled with the colors and sounds, but there was no educational value in the 5 minutes I watched.  No thanks!!

and i'm sure the old  pooh bear cartoon is 100 times better than this and probably more educational. Has sesame street gone downhill in the last ten years or so since i've seen it?

LOL.

Another good PBS show that came to mind is Reading Rainbow. It's pretty great, significantly educational and it has been around for quite a long time. Levar Burton (Jordi from Star Trek NG) is the host. Heck, as an adult, I learned a lot from an episode about coral reefs, saving and repopulating them. :o ;D :)

As far as that "Boohbah" garbage, I surely hope PBS has enough sense to stop the madness without having to wait for enough people to complain. :P

Almost forgot:

I feel sorry for the actors, the "storybook peple", in that show...

Either "Boohbah" or "My Big Fat Obnoxious Fiance"?  ::) :P

It must be the money. And one of the kids looked like one of the fianlists from "American Juniors", another bad show.  :P
I hope he has a good agent.

P.S. I only saw 6 minutes of this drek and never going to see this ever again. The same for every kid, parent, etc. who's sick of this.   And "Reading Rainbow" is a good show. Another good kid show is "Bill Nye The Science Guy".

I watched Reading Rainbow as a preschooler and it was a really good program. I guess that's the only show I've ever watched on PBS.

"Butterfly in the sky,
I can go twice as high.
Take a look, it's in a book,
A Reading Rainbow!"
:D

I'm glad that some of you are talking about some of the GOOD kids shows out there-like Reading Rainbow. There was another one on PBS called The Puzzle Place. Have any of you ever checked that out? It had 6 (puppet) kids-one was black, one was a Native-American, one was Asian-American, one was Jewish-etc. It taught kids that diversity wasn't bad-just different. I haven't seen it in a while so I am afraid that they took it off the air.  :'( Instead, they have to put these AWFUL shows on.
