Subject: Dawn of the Dead fans for or aganst the remake?

Written By: CurtisLowe on 02/02/04 at 11:36 a.m.

As many fans may know , the remake is due out March 19th.

I was totally against a remake of one of the best horror films ever made, and truthfully I can see no way they can improve upon it.

Having seen both trailers tho, I gotta admit , it at least looks like it's gonna be one heck of a zombie film. And it seems as if the 'tone' is right.

Yeah I must admit to actually being excited. Other than the gore factor tho, how do you feel about possible changes in the story line? Such as  'running zombies' and less emphasis on the characters.

Bleh! Sounds to me like they've toned down the social commentary elements of the original film to cash in on the gore factor. The interactions of the characters, both with the zombies and each other, was a crucial element of the film. Romero's 'Dawn of the Dead' was a satire of the American mall society. I can't see the remake being anything like that.

That's gonna be what makes or breaks the film for me. I mean it does look like it's going to be a kick butt zombie flick, but it would be very interesting to see that commentary as it compares to today's society. From the script reviews I've read it doesn't look promising in that respect. They have taken the name for it's recognition only. I just wish , as many have said, that they would have made the movie without using the title. it's definately bleak.

At any rate I've seen and read enough to at least get my butt into a theatre. I'm just going to try and remind myself "It's not Dawn of the Dead", try to enjoy it, and if not pronptly go home and pop in the directors cut of Dawn to ease the pain.  ;)

Read the book, watched the original movie, and look forward to seeing the remake.
