Subject: Simon's comment on American Idol last Monday

Written By: catluver on 02/04/04 at 11:27 a.m.

Did anyone see it?

There was a red-headed girl named Lisa who had a fairly good voice and was decent looking, but you know what Simon told her that she needs to do? Lose some weight! His remark really irked me, because I didn't see anything wrong with her figure. Perhaps voluptious (think the traditional womanly figure such as Marilyn Monroe or Janes Mansfield), but in my opion I don't think she has a weight problem!! If Simon wants to see somebody with a weight problem, there was that Hawaiian girl who handed out her shirts! (Had to get that off my chest)

Funny, I don't recall anyone telling Ruben to lose weight...

Jayne Mansfield was more than "voluptuous".  She was simply obese.  If it were not for that huge rack that she had, her career would have been zero.  As it is, the public eventually saw her as a no-talent wannabe and her career sunk into oblivion before her untimely death.

Now her daughter, Mariska Hargitay is a whole 'nother story.  She is beautiful and talented.  And you will not see her doing nudie shots for magazines like Jayne did.

Simon upholds a vicious double standard, but he is a marketing person at heart and he knows there really isn't a market for chubby (even slightly) white girls.

Of course, most people would have suggested that there wasn't a market for a Clay Aiken either, so maybe Simon's constant harping on image is pointless and stupid.

And so this competition is unfair and biased. Simon should do something about his hair, it's annoying and loud. And maybe someone should tell that in front of his face. And Randy and Paula are the last people to argue about one's lokks or personality. Simon should look to his right. ::)

The difference is that Randy and Paula aren't for sale.

Her measurements were 40-21-35. How does that make her obese? ???

Also, her career was never stellar because everyone regarded her as a cheap copy of Marilyn Monroe, which is unfortunate because I did like Mansfield's movie "The Girl Can't Help It".

As for nudie shots, hell, that's how everyone got started in the 50's. Nothing wrong with that. ;)

Simons "image" of what an American Idol should sound and look like are delusional. He wants a "Beyonce" but itprobrably wont happen he should just focus on the singing ability.

Does Simon not realize the Beyonce is a little "chunky'?  What I mean by that is that the girl's got curves.

And if he wants to talk about image, he needs to get a wardrobe.  If I have to see that black t-shirt one more time, I think I'll scream!  I mean, he's supposed to have money.  Can he not afford to buy different clothes?

He said she looked a little out of shape.  But, correct me if I'm wrong, didn't she make it through?

I think Simon says some of the stuff to get people talking...shock value and all.

Actually he either wears blue jeans with a black T-shirt or a white one. Wonder if they smell by now?
