Subject: Brittany Murphy

Written By: Hairspray on 02/08/04 at 11:16 p.m.

I just watched the movie "Clueless" again, my first time watching it being in 1995.

The girl who played "Tie Fraiser", Brittany Murphy, has completely morphed. I say "morphed" because she looks absolutely nothing like she did back then. Hers was a total transformation. Aside from bleaching her hair and sculpting her body, I'm thinking she's had some help with plastic surgery as well. It reminds me of something one would see in the show "Extreme Make-Over".

See for yourself and let me know what you think:

...Well atleast people wouldn't confuse her with Reese Witherspoon now.  ::)

Honestly, she was fairly attractive then. Why change.
Heck, even Reese Witherspoon didn't have any major altercations while her career exploded with "Election" & "Legally Blonde".

I hafta say I like Brittany as an actor, but the point you make is so true; not only among her but among many actresses of her era (eese Witherspoon 1 example).

This is yet another of my gripes with the world, the whole 'image' thing. She is beautiful naturally, yet 'tucks' and such are encouraged and glorified while the character of a person is less than secondary. This only leads to further young people's sense of value, both in themselves and others.

She (and Reese) used to do such gritty material like Girl Interupted, Freeway, Falling Sky and others. Reese seems to have sold out (tho it may be too early to tell).

I have to admit I loved Just Married with Brittany. Even tho it was a departure from her more dramatic roles. Still afunny, warm movie.

But more back to the point, it seems like being a 'diva' is more important than anything else in the female entertainment world.

Well she was playing a girl that was supposed to be kinda average to unattractive looking in Clueless.  So you were not seeing her as she probably always dressed or kept her hair in that film either.  She was quiet girl that was going to that glamours (was it Beverly Hills?) high school.

On a side note, I remember thinking that Brittany Murphy made a very believable "homely" looking chick.  Usually they cast drop dead gorgeous women in those roles and try to kinda make them look homely, but it comes off as silly.  But in that movie Murphy was a good choice, and very believable in the part she played.

Yeah, like Meg Ryan from "In The Cut". She was supposed to look homely, but just looked different. I actually liked her after her transformation.

Her eyes pop out like two ping-pong balls.

CMTHX! Some of us had a similar discussion a while back in another forum. I remember you said something very similar then too.

I think it's a darn shame that she basically transformed herself into just another hollywood blonde.

I think she looks like two totally different people in those two pictures.

Her look in the "before" picture was actually her true look in real life at the time.
