Subject: 1,341 priests accused of abuse!
I just read in the newspaper that so far out of just a little less than half of the priests investigated that 1341 clergy members have been acused of molesting minors, with more than half the dioceses yet to report :o
That is so hard to believe!

And yet they're the ones majorly whining about same sex marriages. How despicable. No wonder I don't go to church anymore. ::)

If that is the case, then I think it is disgusting.
These people act like martyrs for their religion and give the impression they are celibate yet do something worse on the side.
I just don't understand . . .

Talk about hypocrisy! This is an outrage! Castrate those bastards! How dare they hide behind religion! >:( I haven't been inside of a church since 1997. Hypocrits everywhere I turn. It's sad...and a crying shame.

Now folks, I have to preface my comments with disclosure that I am a Catholic by faith.
As I recall the figure is 1,341 is accusations since 1952. Now I believe that even "1" is too many. But how many TENS OF THOUSANDS of priests have been in service during that time? Between 1965 and the present, there have been a total of about 50,000 Catholic priests in-service at any given time.
So let's say that over the 52-year reporting period, a total of 100,000 priests were in service (some old ones died, some new ones came in, etc).
That would mean an "accusation rate" of 1.3%. WHICH IS 1.3% TOO MANY.
But it is wholly unfair and wrong to condemn the other 98.7% of the priests who are clean. :-/
My opinion? Any priest proven to molest children should have his cut off. Then fed to him. :(
But the VAST MAJORITY of priests are honorable prople trying to do the best job they can. :D

I do feel bad for the priests that are good and faithful.
I wouldn't let it stop me from going to church cuz it Man that's doing the evil deeds, but the thought of them being priests and using that as their cover to do those things. That's evil! Imagine the victims, it damages them intensely!

Huh? That's like saying the church should not frown upon theft because some priests have also been convicted of stealing the collection. That also would be hypocritical wouldn't it?
There are priests and some bishops who were/are real dirt bags. But they are individual persons, not the religion itself. The religion cannot/must not vacate its principles just because some of its members have commited sins.

It doesn't help that the Catholic church's main objective is to look out for the Catholic church: for many years, the heirarchy has known about priestly abuse, but done nothing. When complaints were made, the most that was ever done was to move the priest concerned to a new parish. They're only doing something now because they realize that *not* doing anything would harm the Church even more.
Bear in mind that priests take an oath TO THE CATHOLIC CHURCH - not God or the people to whom they minister. They take an oath which says they must not say or do anything to harm the Church: personally, I think it's rotten all the way to the top, and Pope JPII has only in the last couple of years (when it looked like he'll be dying soon anyway) stirred himself to do something... prior to that, he was too worried about being murdered like his predecessor.

Who cares about the little boys being abused, the church comes first. Isn't the church the house of God, our safe haven, for the people, to worship and make God happy??
The abuse must of been going on for a long time with them knowing to become that desensitized to it.
Imagine what it's done to a Lot of people's faith.

I'll agree that there is some abuse and molestation of children by Catholic priests. But 1,341 of them? Give me a break. There are many more cases of abuse by people not from the clergy that go unreported every day. A church should be a place where no one should ever fear harm by any of the priests or parishioners.
