Subject: 2000th Thread of the 2000s Redux: Rice's Testamony

Written By: Indy Gent on 04/09/04 at 12:41 a.m.

Did anyone witness Condoleeza Rice's deposition to the Bush War Committee on Wednesday? How did you feel about her testimony? I kinda got from the whole thing that Bush and Cheney threw her to the wolves. Although she sounded intelligent and sure, it didn't convince me that she's really coming forward. I hope I'm wrong, but even if I am, is it a good thing?

Actually, Bush had nothing to do with the "wolves", they were looking for somebody Republican to skewer.

I saw most of it, and was thoroughly disgusted be the behavior of Richard Ben-Veniste.  He would demand a "yes or no" answer, and refused to allow her any clarification on any points.  When he asked for the title of the PDB (Presidential Daily Brief) delivered on Aug. 6, 2001, he only wanted to hear the title, which was "Bin Laden Determined to Attack Inside the United States."  He refused to allow her to state that it was only a background brief, with *NO* information pertaining to any specified threat.

Having spent time in the military, the title of a brief can bare little resembelence to the actual content.  Just by the title, it shows it is only background.  Just as I am sure there are similar reports burried all over government about every country and organization in the world.

Personally, I wish that the members of the board had cared more about gathering information then with theatrics and pointing blame.  Yesterdays "performance" showed just how partaisan the members are.  And stacking the audience with 9/11 families was just another part of that.  Why not bring them in on other days?  Well, because then nobody would care.
