That is so unbelievable :\'( It is sad.

It will be sad when he does die.

OMG!  How frightening and horrible! He was such a gifted comedian and a funny actor.  It's sad to know he was probably suffering inside.  His wife died of cancer (?) in 1990, and his kids are now in their late teens (I think).  What a terrible loss for them too.

We've lost Ronald Reagan, Ray Charles, and Rick Moranis in under a week.  Thank God this week is almost over!

I'll remember Moranis best as Bob McKenzie, and as Louis Tully in "Ghostbusters."

Maybe he jumped in front of that train because his agent told him he was contractually obligated to make three more "Honey I Shrunk..." movies!

And it wasn't even April Fools Day. It's so sad that idiots write about celebrity death because either they don't like the person, the celebrity hasn't done anything in awhile, or they want to hurt his/her fans. Just like the time that they reported George Benson was killed in a fight with his publicist that turned out to be false. Really shameful. >:(
Reminds me of the story that a high school wrestling champ was killed in a shootout with police. It turned out to be a cousin with the same name that robbed a bank and was killed.  That I could understand. :-\\

I'm not trying to be callas, but why hasn't this been on any news sites/TV stations since it apparently happened last Sunday?

I just did a Google search on it, and found nothing about it.

Something smells fishy about this story.

I dunno, this article is dated June 7th.  Maybe with all the hoopla over Ronnie's death it was overlooked?? ???  Now I am beginning to wonder.  God, I hope this isn't a prank article.  If it turns out to be, I apologize in advance. :-[  I haad NO idea... :-\\

Yeah, I'm not sure about this one. I mean, since he's from Canada, it would have been all over the news here. Maybe they still haven't positively identified the body yet. It would be quite mangled!

Exactly.

I just called a friend I have in Toronto(where Moranis is from), and they never heard anything about it.

I'm not convinced...yet.

Good question.  I thought it just happened today or something, I didn't consider that Sunday was five days ago.  Another thing that sounds fishy is the description of the cop hanging onto the utility pole to measure the suction strength of the train.  That smacks of urban myth!
Well, we'll see.

Exactly.

One thing about the birth of an urban myth is when the original story presents something like that.  That way, in the future, skeptics can prove it wrong.

As for now, I'm saying this story is bunk.  If I'm wrong, I'll be the first one to retract my statement...but until then.

I went to snopes.com & nothing!

In fact, I have the Snopes page STILL OPEN! I Googled it, too, the only references I could find were on some messageboards and blogs.  I doubt there's any truth to it.  Moranis was a major star, not some bit character actor.  The major news wires would have picked up by Tuesday morning at the latest.

The Yahoo story credits AP News.  I went to the Associated Press website and did a 7-day news query on both "Rick Moranis" and "Moranis."  Nothing.

This one is true.  He's not as glamorous as Rick, but significant to L.A. nonetheless.

Well, this should put this story to rest:

Just look at the beginning part of that address.  That is someones homepage.

Just click on it and read the statement at the bottom and you will see that it is in fact...a hoax.

Apparently this guy has too much time on their hands.

Ah! Mystery solved! A very clever hoax. At least it wasn't with malicious intent. Don't worry PopCultureGirl. You weren't to know.  ;)

It didn't read like a typical AP story. ???

Rushed to the Chehalis hospital by K. L. Marvin, ambulance driver, he was pronounced dead on arrival, and Coroner Joe Chytil was called to conduct an investigation.

It was probably written by a couple of high school kids named K. L. Marvin and Joe Chytil.

You would think that Yahoo! would be a reliable source for celebrity deaths. It's just too bad that Ray Charles couldn't have been a hoax. But at least he's alive in our hearts.

Indy,
You're not blaming Yahoo are you?
Look at the original URL. It's not in the form of say:

http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nm/20040613/people_nm/people_cox_dc_3

My heart jumped when I first saw this. I know Rick Moranis' son and daughter very well, as they go to my school. But at the same time, I was sure that I'd have heard something about it if it were true. I've only met Rick a handful of times, but he's a great guy. Somebody has a sick sense of humor  :-\\
