The eye drop commercial is funny, it's Ben Stein I can't stand!
Commercials I hate:
1. Bacon, bacon, bacon, bacon, pant, pant, pant, IT'S BACON!
2. What does everybody want for breakfast? Honey Bunches of Oats!
3. Deitech.com commercials with the fat mortgage salesman.
4. Any commercial for mutual funds.
5. Male enhancement product commercial featuring cocktail weenies.
6. Local commercial for "Bob's Discount Furniture," featuring "Bob" shouting about
his latest great deals. There's sure to be one like this in your market, too.
7. SUV commercials featuring off-adventures when you know they're all being sold to soccer moms in Downers Grove.
8. Ads for either Presidential candidate.
9. Carnival Cruise commercial w/ Cyndi Lauper song.
10. Swiffer with variation on Devo's "Whip It."
--I know I'm forgetting 100 doozies, so I'll have to come back to this one!

Are you from Chicago? We have a city called DG & there's a Bob's Discount Furniture (or Bob's Furniture Warehouse or something like that)
In spite of the fact that I mentioned Downers Grove, I'm not from Chicago, I'm from Massachusetts. The Bob's Discount stores I refer to are around the city of Springfield. "Bob" jumps up and down and shouts about "A meeatching sofer, ahmcheer, and loveseat set fo-ah only NINE-NINETY-NINE-NINETY-NINETY-NINE!!!" I'm trying to spell phonetically for the New England accent. You just know if you go to Bob's, you're going to find out the deal's a snowjob and they're going to talk you out of twice the money. You just want to find "Bob" and beat him up!
:P
I know Downers Grove from my favorite '80s comedian, EMO PHILIPS. "I was born in Chicago. When I was ten, my parents moved to DOOWWNERS GROOOOVE Illinoise, when I was twelve, I found them." Emo also had a funny song about Downers Grove. "I like to shop in Downtown Downers Grove, it doesn't take big bucks, and everybody there really is nice...
I went into the clothing store and I made up my mind, I-wasn't-going-to-let-any-pushy-salesman-talk-me-into-buying-anything-I-really-didn't-neeeeed...So after I bought the kilts, I went to the hardware shop, I said to the guy, 'This riding lawnmower's stupid,' he said, 'Next time, you get on top...'"
etc etc.

Which shows you how desperate Stuart Pankin is for work since "Not Necessarily the News". (I've also seen Danny Breen and Annie Bloom in ads, too. Nobody's called Rich Hall or Lucy Webb yet.)
Speaking of local ads, I can't stand commercials for Buddy's Carpet, Newport Windows, the Watson's girl, or Don's Guns ("Ah don't wanna make any munny folks. I jus' luv to sell guns, heh, heh, heh, heh.")
3. Deitech.com commercials with the fat mortgage salesman.

Let's see here - every single one of them.
Truth of the matter is I actually used to enjoy watching commercials back when they didn't last 20 seconds a piece and were'nt shown 70 times during the break of a single TV show. Hell I saw one commerical back in the day it was like a small little TV show and it'd be unlikely you'd ever see it again. Now I see a commericial at 9:00 and by 9:15 I got the F'N thing memorized.

Oh, I though he looked familiar. I looked up his profile on IMDB, and he's been in dozens of forgettable flicks! Whatever happened to the annoying Dell Computer kid from a few years back?
Suburu had a character in the '80s called "Mr. Easy," which sort of reminds me of the fat Deitech guy.
LOL! "Buddy's Carpet," I can just see it! What city is this "Don's Guns" in, sounds hilarious!

Steve (I believe that's his name) the Computer Guy was dropped by Dell because he was caught smoking Mary Jane or something.
The Buddy's Carpet ad features his daughter or wife (I think) now, but it's not the same without ol' Buddy's whining voice.
Don's guns is in Indianapolis. They closed the one on Keystone Avenue because a clerk was killed at the store by thugs using some of Don's guns. But his other 2 ranges are still open. 8) ::)

I thought that kid "Steve" was supposed to be a copy of Eddie Haskell. If "Leave it to Beaver" took place ten years later, Eddie would always be trying to talk Wally into smoking a joint with him. He was just that type of punk. So the Mary Jane fits right in with the Dell Computer Guy, but I guess Dell didn't want that kind of "image." You never know, maybe Dell will do some market research and turn around and hire Snoop Dogg next!
Oh, Indianapolis, hence "Indy Gent."

My errant stepbrother lived out in Indy for a while.  At one point he was working in an all-night liquor store on the rough side of town.  He stood behind bullet-proof plexi-glass!

Has anyone seen that stupid Domino's where Michael Waltrip's wife is changing the tire of the family wagon, and the announcer goes, "He's wondering after all these years in NASCAR why he can't change his own tire." Doesn't that have something to do with his pit crew changing his tires and he does nothing but drive? So who's the stupid one: Michael or the announcer? :-\\

There used to be an electronics store called CRAZY EDDIE'S. The pitch was 'his prices are INSANE'...if store owner EDDIE ANTAR was making that amount of $$ from discount....couldn't he have been HONEST with the IRS and pay his taxes he owed for YEARS!?!

Any ad for color copiers, especially the one that goes, "why settle for this, when you can have this," The one with the out of tune violin playing, whatever that is.
The one where the kid's riding with his boss and his friends call him up:
"Thomas Schmidt."
"Schmidtie, yaaayy!"
"It's tough being the first one out of college to land a job!"
That's so obnoxious, I don't even know what product its for 'coz I reach for the remote so fast!

CLASSICS
Lines from commercials that annoyed me in times gone by:
Klondike ice cream:
Jingle, What would you do for a Klondike Bar?
"Would you make monkey sounds?"
"Monkey Sounds? Oh, I don't think so..."
Velveeta:
Jingle, Cheddar's lumpy, cheddar's oily, it slides off of your plate onto your doily!
Maalox
Daughter's boyfriend: "Uh, nice house."
Maalox dad: "Nice earring!" (pings the earring)
McDonalds's
Mary Lou Retin: "Double Double Cheese Cheese Burger Burger Please!"
Friendly's restaurants
Jingle, The Friendly's Super Summer Sunday Celebration!

I don't care for those ads either. And that catchphrase, "MORE OVALTINE PLEASE!" is equally as annoying. Mostly I hate commercials that have violence, ripped-off songs, or things that cannot happen in real life, but there are other types of ads that I find annoying too. ::)

The KY ads are STILL not as obnoxious as those erectile enhancement ads, and I never cared for hemorrhoid topical ads, like the guy on the bleachers saying "I should have used pre-par-ation-H!," or laxative ads, like the one at the border crossing,

"Diarrhea!"

I hate MOST commercials but here is a list of the ones that really annoy me:
Gieko (doesn't matter which one)
Deiteck (again, doesn't matter which one)
Viagra where they are singing "We Are the Champions" I'm sure Freddy Mercury is rolling over in his grave.
The one where that guy gets a job and his college buddies call him at work with stupid comments "Guess how many cookies I have in my mouth?"
Commercials that they show two or three times during each break. (Hello TLC)
The Hummer commercial where the kid is cheating during a soap box race.
Spam (Doesn't matter which one)
Investment oppertunities-Owning ATMs in fast food places/DVD rental machines etc.
Precription drugs-ALL OF THEM-personally I think they should be banned (but that is for another thread)
That is just the short list. I'm sure I will come up with more later.

I believe it is Bud Light (pre-"American Heroes"), but towards the end of this radio spot, the announcer says in a booming voice "You've got moxy". I am wanting to know what he is talking about and if anyone knows where I can find this for download/purchase.

Yeah, I generally don't like Pepsi's lame ad campaigns, either.
But I have to give them credit where it is due. When the Coca Cola Company came out with that infamous Coke II swill, trying to emulate the oversweet Pepsi, Pepsi ran an ad that said "They Blinked". Pretty cool, and accurate.

This is not a commercial that I hate, but a commercial that I LOVE!
I don't know if they show this one in the States. But it's a commercial for Clorets chewing gum.
It's a take off of a 70s cop show. They show a detective (with the long hair and "stache" eating a sandwich filled with onions and drinking a cup of coffee. His partner offers him some Clorets and he says "In a minute". Then he goes into the interrogation room and gets real close too the suspect and says "Sooooooooo". Right then the suspect catches a whiff of the detectives breath and immediately confesses to the crime! All while playing that cheesy 70s detective show music in the background.
Hilarious!

OK, here's a couple of ads that drive me nuts. I don't know if they've been mentioned yet because I haven't read this entire thread :) but:
The Kellogg's Sultana Bran ad with the horrendous reworking of "I Heard it Through the Grapevine" as the theme. Mum comes in and finds her three sons eating breakfast cereal in the afternoon and they all start singing about how they love sultanas. The first ad with the two kids complaining about breakfast was bad (although the boy was wearing a Dokken shirt, which was kinda cool, though strange), but this one is worse.
An ad for a car with a young woman cruising past a cafe in a new car that makes the tops of everyone's coffee blow off as she drives by, even though they're all sitting INSIDE! And she can see what's happening in the mirrors, even though she hasn't even gone past yet.
Any ad made in America that they show on Australian TV with Australian accents dubbed in. It's just not convincing. ie. the latest Smint campaign, a teen skincare product, and a couple of others that I can't think of right now. Conversely, I saw a cosmetics ad the other day with Natalie Imbruglia (who's an Australian) and her voice had been dubbed with an American accent! How bizarre.

"Yesterday?! Yesterday you said you'd call Sears!'

And then they show the couple in their home with the new air conditioner they just purchased from Sears, not to mention a totally different set of clothing and their hair combed :P

The law requires them to put all those possible side effects in. There's that male potency drug that warns, "seek immediate medical attention for erections lasting longer than four hours." There's a word for that, "priapism" (after Priapus, the Greek god of male procreative power).
However, I think the possible 4-hour+ erection merely suggests, "Hey, this stuff really works!"
::)
If it was up to me, I would put the required list of possible side effects at the very beginning of the commercial. TV viewers have an attention span of about 60 seconds, so by the end of the commercial, they'll only remember the good stuff!

Haha. Yeah well I saw the ad again after I posted that and it is her voice that's used, but the dubbing makes it look like it's actually another voice. It's just a badly dubbed campaign, because all the commercials for the same company have the same problem. I don't know why. With the amount of money they must have you'd think they could afford to have it done properly but then again, when you fill the screen with sensational looking women, what they sound like probably isn't in the foremost of many people's thinking. :)
Oh yes, and I'll also add here that what sometimes seems to pass as an "Australian" accent on US TV wouldn't pass as one here. ;)

Probably the worst of those being the two chat line ads: one with a man howling like a wolf, the other with a woman howling and scratching. I would have reached for a rifle and insert lead into those two, not walk over to them.
Those live sex chatline ads that are aired late at night...same for that '555-Wake' ad for a morning wake-up call...use an ALARM CLOCK!!

They have the Sylvan commercials here too.
As far as local commercials, there's this car dealership that goes to local "sites" and makes some little clever(?) saying. "One of OKC's best-kept secrets is this chocolate factory...for the best deals on cars head down to...." Like what does the chocolate factory or the old homestead or the whatever museum have to do with your cars? Then there's the car dealership in Norman..fyi EVERYTHING in Norman has to be about OU. The stupid people on the commercial singing Boomer Sooner...it drives me NUTS!

Queen's "We Are the Champions" for Viagra.
It's funny, for decades ad-men have marketed every product as though it will help you get l@id. At last they have a product that literally DOES help you get l@id! Where to go from there?
Anyway, this latest Viagra ad is for a sort of frequent buyers discount card. I mean...really.
And what's the product in that wedding commercial where the use Pachelbel's Canon. That one bugs me, I don't know why. Anywa, Pachelbel's Canon always reminds me of thosw 1980s New Age records from Windham Hill.

I am surprised that the Teacher Unions have not protested this ad, since it implies that the kid is not being taught in the school that he attends. He has to go to "Sylvan Learning Center" to get decent grades.
So the poor kids whose parents can not take them to Sylvan in the family Volvo have to slug it out in public school.

There was a big legal stink about those ads. In the original version, the Lamisil Tablet was "crushing and killing" the dermatophite gremlins. Somebody complained to the FDA that this implied that Lamisil will completely eliminate the fungus.
So the FDA told Lamisil to change the ad. Now, if you notice, the Lamisil Tablet "swats away" the fungus, and then the fungus comes back and gets swatted away again. The Lamisil Tablet then "stands watch", looking side-to-side for more fungus.

Swiffer ads with Genevive Gorter and also the ads with Devo's "Whip It". Are the guys in Devo that desperate for money to let CORPORATE AMERICA use their coolest song and run it into the ground?
I can't stand that ad either. As a matter of fact, I mentioned on the other thread that I hate any commercial that rips off a popular song and changes the lyrics for commercial purposes. Like Home Depot did with the "Addams Family" theme 15 years ago ("Do it yourself, do it for less...") or Robinsons-May does now changing the word "remind" to "excite" in Naked Eyes' biggest hit.

Does anyone notice that the commercials get more depressing as you go on through the night? I, being an insomniac, love to stay up and watch late night T.V. After a week or two of observation, I have come to a conclusion. The following chart shows what commercials are most frequent at certain times of the night:
8-10: Normal Commercials, Appealing to the Primetime viewers
10-11: Still normal
11-12:30: A lot for Porn tapes, some for depression.
12:30-2: Almost all porn and depression
2-5:30: Dead-Air or FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, PUT THE GUN DOWN! I KNOW YOU"RE SITTING ON THE COUCH WITH THE GUN IN YOUR MOUTH, DON"T PULL THE TRIGGER! DON"T!!!!! BUY MEDICATION, GET SOME HELP!!!!
Try it out when you can't sleep, it works! ;D

Personally I can't stand anti-Kerry ads. Why? Because I'm rooting for him, and that's all I am going to say. :-X
And I also hate commercials that have violence in them; I think the FCC should ban violence in commercials. Many such ads contain scenes that may be unsuitable for younger viewers; there are even a few non-violent scenes in ads that may frighten the young ones. I'd name specific ads now, but that would take a while.

I'm with you on that. Any time I see such an ad, and I don't feel like changing the channel, I close my eyes and pretend to go to sleep. (Unless I'm tired, then I'd just turn away from the TV until the program comes back.)

I saw a violent ad on TV the other day, but I forget what was being advertised. (Heck, if I forget the commercial altogether, that would be fine with me!)

All commercials promoting Wal-Mart as a great place to start your career. On this matter, I recommend two books:
Barbara Ehrenreich: Nickel and Dimed
http://www.henryholt.com/holt/nickelanddimed.htm
David K. Shipler: The Working Poor
http://www.randomhouse.com/catalog/display.pperl?0375408908
Hundreds of Wal-Mart stores have a 100%-plus turnover rate every year. Most retail chains that employ vast numbers of "unskilled" workers, such as McDonald's and Wal-Mart, make it a point to provide as little training as possible.

Laugh! Cool to see another Normanite here (I'm at work at OU at the moment, heh). Local commercial I hate for Norman involves two lawyers just standing there staring at the camera for about 30 seconds, looking stoned and like they're going to fall over. Then finally after all this silence you get the "Don't go another minute without calling (whomever the lawyers are)". Yeah... like seeing stoned-looking (note, that's stoned, not stone-faced, which might actually prove helpful in a court of law) idiots without any presentation of credentials is going to convince me to hire them.

Recent commercials I can't stand...
Anything involving low-carb. I actually emailed Subway about how they were shooting themselves in the foot with all their Atkins commecials after spending so much time and money with the Jared/Clay Henry ads who lost so much weight without using Atkins. Apparently it seems to have worked cause I've seen a lot more commercials about having an active lifestyle than Atkins wraps in Subway commercials lately.
The McDonald's new chicken strips commercial with the people talking to their imaginary friends/co-workers. Only thing I like is at the end of one (the man's, I think) he asks "what have we learned?", to which I can say "McDonald's commercial writers are idiots."
The recent anti-drug commercial with people looking at a price scanner (like in a supermarket). Sure, the anti-drug message is fine, but they start off with the defensive "Oh, you think you can scan me. Like, just by looking at me you know all about me?" First its unnecessarily aggressive. I don't automatically look at people and think "he/she must be a drug user" and to imply that I do is just stupid. Secondly, it is, at the moment, racist. There are only 2 commercials out and both of them involve black people, as if anyone one black should have this attitude because they're more likely to be using drugs (or assumed to be using drugs). Maybe the writer meant it to be anti-racist (ie, don't assuming this person uses drugs just because he/she is black), but I think they just ended up contributing to stereotypes.

There are a few commercials that really cracked me up a year or 2 ago that had been edited:
1. Juicy Fruit's kiddie show commercial("Caring and Sharing, it can be fun!"). In the original, the lady was kicking the shnot out of the guy in the fish costume til his eye popped out for taking his candy while the song played in the background. Now that part's either been replaced with a friendlier version, or just plain ol' cut out.
2. Then there's the chips ahoy! sandwich cookie commercial where the cookies gang up on the cream filling on the bus, and they all start singing "stuck in the middle"(not that 70s song). In the end, the baby on the bus that was sitting next to them, takes a bite out of one of the cookies and he says, "Hey, he bit me!" That part was just plain cut out.
Those cracked me up when I first saw them, and kids' ads never crack me up(I'm a cartoon lover).
Although I can understand 1 reason why the baby part might have been cut out: babies have little to no teeth! (which also makes the Ruffles have Ridges baby ads stupid too).

I hate the chicken selects commercial, it's annoyingly crazy. I mean they're just chicken nuggets.
That geico commercial, with the girls in the woods. It's annoying and at first I thought it was an Old Navy commercial. I hate the Enzyte commercial, it's scary. The woman, her smile creeps me out. Ummmm, omg! the citi ommercial all of them where someone is mad at them and they say "Thank you" allm of a sudden everyone is happy. That's gay. The tampax commercial and the always ones too. The tampax ones are annoying, the boat starts to sink and the guy just randomly turns around and she plugs it with a tampon, can you say gross? Oh but no, the turns around and doesn't even notice the tampon. Then the always one, people randomly come up to you talking about pads? WTF? The one where the guy at the doctor gets full! Then the stupid doctor faints. God, taco bell work harder! Another Mickey D's one, last year when they had the new white meat and the girl keeps looking at this guy, while her boyfriend is talking. Lovely message. The one with the women with the yoplait yogurt and the women is like, "This as good as weekend without guys" then all the girls agree, "Yeah!" Can you say gay? The old bounty commercial with the fat asian kid, who keeps eating chicken wings and throwing gross paper napkins on the floor, I seriously wanted to slap that kid. That commercial with the sad music and then out of nowhere there is this fat baby with pasta sauce all over him. :D God, ew.
That's all I can think of.

I just. need. a. quote." Also, the one that has the guy staring at the computer.. "Thank you, someone will call in 48 Hours.. 72 Hours.. Indeed, I hate that one too. Also the ones for Geico where the line is, "Good news! I just saved a bundle on auto insurance." For instance, there's one where the lawyer hangs up and says to the prisoner, "Good news!"
The prisoner says, "I'm out of here?"
The lawyer says, "No, I just saved a bundle on car insurance." There are a bunch with that ironic theme, and they're all annoying.
I nominate "Vehix.com" the most annoying commerical of the summer. It may win a nomination for the fall too, if they keep flooding the market with it!

While this is happening some woman comes onscreen and rips an air freshener out of the wall and is pulling the power cord through the wall and walking away. At this point I'm thinking: can this commercial get anymore retarded? Who would do that to there own house!? The Geico "Good News" Commericals...these were funny at first, but then they got annoying.  And don't these fall under "False advertising" laws somehow?
"Dr. Angus & The Angus Diet"...this'd be funny...if it didn't have RETARDED DISCLAIMERS! "Dr. Angus is not a real doctor" and "The Angus Diet is Not a Real Diet". DUH!
(BTW, a Geico commercial with a 'doctor' had a similar disclaimer to the first one in the Angus ad....is this required by law?)
"The Value Team!"-I was expecting an action spoof....we get a guy eating in his cubicle.  WTF?
Early "Simpsons" ads...I love The Simpsons, but the ad always described the plot booster, which was over in the first 5-10 minutes, and not the actual plot.  Awful!
The old Palmolive ads..."I'm soaking in it!" News flash, nobody cares!
Fosters' "Australian Dictionary" ads- I'm not Australian myself, but I'm pretty sure they must be offended.
The Muppets for Pizza Hut- I grew up on the Muppets, and to see them sell out like this is sickening.
Crestor- I'd be able to take these, if my beloved Captain Picard wasn't being humiliated by sounding like Dr. Seuss.  And yeah, I loved you as Professor X, Patirck, and I know you've done Shakespeare, but you can never escape the Enterprise.  Just ask William Shatner.
"Hogan's Heroes" on DVD- Not the ads themselves, I just hate Hogan's Heroes. I'm a German Jew on my mom's side, and her mom actually left Germany fleeing the Nazis.  That is not a good idea for a sitcom.  I hope whoever made this show burns in Hell.
"I am George W. Bush, and I approve this message!"- I am Jared, and I think Bush is a Nazi!
