I don't watch any of those so called reality shows. Pure crap. I have alot of channels on cable and there is almost nothing on worth watching. Luckily I got a new DVD surround system.

Lol. What can I say? They have now taken the 'fish out of water' route with reality TV. What next? Are we going to see what it's like for Jehovah's Witnesses to partake in a birthday party? Guaranteed entertainment.  :-\\  ;D

I honestly can't wait for this "reality" television fad to be over!  Except for The Simpsons, I can't think of a single non-cable show that I still watch.  Thank God for cable!  ::)

It would be MUCH more amusing if they sent three Hollywood hipsters have to sweat it out on an Amish farm for the summer.  That's right.  No rap, no rock, no dope, no booze, no fornicating, no cussing, no nothing!  Just up at 4:30 AM, and milk them cows!
;)

When I saw a TV ad for "Amish in the City," I have been wanting to watch it just for curiosity's sake. If I like it, I'll watch it; if not, I've never heard of it. ;)

I'd just love to see an Amish dude see balloons, TVs, lights, phones, CDs, etc., for the first time ever. But then, if it's successful, they should do the opposite: Take a famous celebrity (i.e. Britney Spears, Ludacris, Coolio, Tone Loc, etc.) and put them in an Amish farm with no phone, no lights, no motorcar, not a single luxury. Like Robinson Ca-ruso, it's as primitive as can be.

I can't wait to watch this show! :)

How about a whacky reality show that teams up three Catholic priests in their twenties with three Playboy centerfold models?

Have them all share a house in the Hollywood Hills.  The first model to seduce a priest wins a million bucks.  Unknown to two of the priests, one of them is really Ron Jeremy the porn star and he works to encourage one of the other guys to go for it.

Ratings would be out of this world!  :D ;D

Duh... Amish people have already SEEN things like balloons, phones, TV's and lights.  They are not blind.

Most Amish do not POSSESS or USE these modern gadgets.  But they've seen them and know generally what they are.

If I remember right, between 80-90% of them choose to return to their old life, which, to me, is amazing.

I think it's because it was the only life they knew until the age of 16. Plus being on your own in a hostile environment (and don't tell me the world doesn't get hostile ;D) can put a damper on all the new experiences they have had.

Speaking of the Amish, Rice Cube had a dream the other night that involved them taking over the world with machine guns. :o

Those kids look like they came from the OC or been hanging out on Sunset (very un-Amish looking) so they don't appear to have gone very far - maybe drove 20 miles to their big home in the H. hills.   :-\\

The Amish have what is called "rumspringa" (spelling) which is where they basically are able to leave home at age 16 (?) to go live "outside" of their world until age 18.  During this time, they are allowed to do pretty much whatever they want, in order to decide if they truly want to be Amish or not.  Upon their return home, they are baptized.  Basically, this is just that period of time being filmed...I saw a documentary on this on one of the "movie channels" (Cinemax, I think).  If I remember right, between 80-90% of them choose to return to their old life, which, to me, is amazing.
:)I think they leave at various ages between about 16 to 19.Cheers!
