Everyone knows that we all could easily refer to any decade before this one, such as the '90s, the '80s, and so on. It's hard to think of a sufficient name for this decade, however. Some simply say the 2000's, but that's not making this decade unique, because that could mean the years 2000-2999. We all know how to SPELL the name of this decade, the '00s, but how can we say it?? The Aughts, the Zeroes, the Naughts?... What else? Cause in 10 years or so what are the radio dee jays gonna say? "We have the best music of the '90s, __'s, and Today!", plus for those who grew up in the 2000-2009 decade, when referring to it in the future we'll need a good name. Also accompanying it with another word like "Roaring 20s" for the 1920s, would help. We have no help on how to name this decade because in the year 1000, people could barely speak let alone have a name for the 1000-1009 decade, and in "Futurama", I haven't heard anything about 3000-3009.

I call it the 2K'S thanx to the Y2k scare. Y2K means "why 2000?" so the 2K's would be 2000-2009. This phrase is featured on a movie called "Head of State".

Maybe from 1999 it is.  There are also a few exceptions such as The Beastie Boys and the grunge comeback, but mostly I think we are in a totally new decade.  The '70s for example is our closest resemblance to the 2000's.  (The '70s were just a rip off from the 60s.)

Seriously, it will be looked back on, historically, as "the turn of the millenium," "the first decade of the 21st century" and "the first decade of the millenium" just as the 00s of the 20th century are referenced with terms such as "turn of the century" or "the first decade of the 20th century."     

If you must have a nickname for it, I like:

Naughties
Pre-teens
O-dies (pronounced like oh-deez)
Undies
Zilchies
Nil-at-ease

Personally I believe this decade will simply be called the 00's or two-thousands. Now I know that two-thousands technically can refer to the whole century, but I think most people will use it to refer to this first decade of the century. For the 1900s, a lot of people refer to that decade as the nineteen hundreds, so it makes sense that two-thousands will refer to the 00s.

I call it the decade to forget.... lets really look at it. do we want to remember all this "bad" music.... I should say re-made music shouldn't I. Most of it in my opinion is just so rediculously stoopid... yes with TWO O's!!!!  Just my opinion though so please don't pounce on me.

Although we'll probably just refer to it as the 00's, our descendant's will probably refer to it as the turn of the Century or Millennium. That's really the only term I have heard refered to the first decade of the last century.

Other terms though could be either the "Millennial" or X decade- as in 10th decade or century
