Subject: I need some songs for a school project.

Written By: Joelle on 10/09/04 at 7:04 pm

Some songs dealing with war, peace, love, etc. to use as repetends for a school paper.

I've only found 4 that could work so far:

Let's Talk About Love- Celine Dion
Imagine- John Lennon
Blowin' in the Wind- Bob Dylan
Travelin' Soldier- Dixie Chicks

I don't know how many I'll need, but please give me as many as you can think of.

Thanks,

Joelle

I know someone mentioned it but the Eve of Destruction is a classic political war song

"You're old enough to kill but not for voting, you don't believe in war so what's that gun you're holding"

I think that is a superb and accurate lyric to describe many a soldier.

My Gran always said t me that the cemetaries are full of dead heroes... thought provoking...

It's nice that you're offering your help, gemini61...but Give Peace A Chance is by John & Yoko (Plastic Ono Band)...and Ohio is by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young ;)

A lot of great songs listed here. "Eve of Distruction" "Ohio" (which is about Kent State in 1970), and "I Feel Like I'm  Fixin' to Die Rag" are right up there. Jeff mentioned "Aquarius/Let The Sunshine In" but I don't think the 5th Dimension really captured the essence of it. Listen to the soundtrack of Hair (the play-NOT the movie), especially the last song "The Flesh Failure (Let the Sunshine In)"

A bit off topic here. I noticed that some of the protest songs of the 60s seem to be very much pertinent today as they were back then. Could it mean that we are reliving the 60s?

I lived through the 60's.  It isn't the same, but it is getting close.

Galveston - Glen Campbell

There've been a couple of great songs about Australia's involvement in various wars but I don't suppose they'd be of any use?
