Subject: They are at it again.....

Written By: JamieMcBain on 02/22/05 at 7:32 pm

After going after Spongebob, another group has outed an animated film/show, this time Shrek 2, seriously.....

Shrek 2 'outed' as gay

Fundamentalists strike

By CP

TORONTO -- The hit feature Shrek 2 joins the ranks of animated films to be "outed" by some Christian fundamentalists in the U.S., who charge that cross-dressing and transgender themes have made their way into the beloved kids' movie and warn parents to beware. Although many people see the Oscar-nominated film as a humorous story about a green ogre and his true love, the Traditional Values Coalition has a different take on the animated feature.

"Shrek 2 is billed as harmless entertainment but contains subtle sexual messages," the coalition says on its website. The group describes itself as a grassroots inter-denominational lobby with more than 43,000 member churches.

PLENTY OF COMPANY

"Parents who are thinking about taking their children to see Shrek 2 may wish to consider the following."

The article proceeds to describe one of the characters, an "evil" bartender (voiced by Larry King) who is a male-to-female transgender in transition and who expresses a sexual desire for Prince Charming.

In another identified scene, Shrek and Donkey need rescuing from a dungeon by Pinocchio and his nose, which is made to extend as an escape bridge by getting the wooden boy to lie about not wearing women's underwear.

Christian activists have also targeted SpongeBob SquarePants, Barney the dinosaur and Sesame Street's Bert & Ernie as children's characters who are conduits for a soft-on-gays message.

The Traditional Values Coalition report, A Gender Identity Disorder Goes Mainstream, raps DreamWorks, the maker of Shrek 2, for helping to promote cross-dressing and transgenderism.

But Charles Keil, a film studies professor at the University of Toronto, says transgendered groups might also have reason to complain about being parodied.

"You have an image within a comic context that could be read either way," says Keil, who adds quickly that such humour is designed for parents anyway and goes way above the heads of the children in the audience.

"If the kids don't get it, it doesn't really matter."

Keil says the idea behind the Shrek movies is a message of tolerance -- that outward appearances don't matter and it's what's underneath that counts -- and such complaints defeat that larger, more important message.

"Targeting minuscule elements within a larger work and trying to extract from that some kind of argument that borders on the paranoid is really misconstruing the general aim of this entertainment."

People just have too much time on their hands.  ::)

I am just curious, after Spongebob, Buster Bunny, and Shrek 2, who or what is next?  ::)

And yet they make no complaint about the prince in the first one being called Farquaad.

This just in... sense of humor is officially dead.  People take things too seriously and literally. Don't "family and conservative rights groups" have anythink better to do, than watch movies and TV shows, and try to find gay charecters and have the shows banned or changed, for "safety of the kids?'

These people need to use their time differently.  There has to be more productive things for them to do rather than watching cartoons to find "gay" references. ::)

Who cares about what those idiots say, they find something "gay" about everything. Who really cares , they're so obsessed about the whole gay issue.

What I don't get is they try to hide their kids from any form of sex. A woman wearing anything sexy is considered bad. I'm not talking porno here, I'm just talking about a nice looking sexy clothes, kind of like what Eva Longoria has on in my avatar,  ;). They don't want their kids looking at the sexy girls, but then they don't like gay stuff. I actually they encouage their kids to be gay by shielding them so much. Some don't even watch regular tv, because it's "secular" what a big crock of crap that is. They are the ones turning their kid "gay" by shielding them so much from the opposite sex.

Kids will one day be "shielded" from the outside, for "their own protection", I hate to see what will happen that day comes.  ::)

heehee....the most ironic part is seeing what some of their kids wear (or don't) when the parents aren't around ;)

I went to "christian" school for 2 years, some dressed worse than public school, and there was just as much sex talk, drug talk, etc. that there is in public school. Bunch of phonies if you ask me.

Heck, you must've gone to a "real" christian school....at the ones around here, there is MORE ;D ;D ;)

One kid made a bong for Art class, the teacher knew what it was and said that better not be a bong, she still let him make it anyway. Then these two kids would make out and fondle each other right in the middle of class, it was quite distracting.  ::)

Yeah... Barney. Someone awhile mentioned awhile back, that they thought that Barney was "evil" because....

1.  He's purple.
2.  Teaches children to get along with other people from other cultures.

Seriously....  ::)  ;D

They even said Tinky Winky from the teletubbies was gay Because he had a "magic bag", the group claimed it was a purse, so he was partly cross dressing.

In some of the old Looney Tunes cartoons, Bugs Bunny lays a big wet kiss right on the lips of Yosemite Sam and Elmer Fudd in order to disorient them.

I wonder what these people have to say about that.  ::)
