Singer or musical artist?
As far as musical artists go, I still like Phil Collins.

I don't know how anything by the Backstreet Boys qualifies as Old School, to me the Old/New School line is the year 1997 and the Backstreets started New Pop.  Out of these none.  I like Serj from System of a Down.  8)

I agree with Indy, if I must pick, it's Destiny's Child.....although I would put the word "best" or any of those 4 artists in the same sentence....especially Backstreet Boys.        :P

The Backstreet Boys are considered "old school" now? Man, time sure flies. I'm really getting old, aren't I?   :(

To make myself feel young, I like to think the old school/new school cut off year is 1991.  :)

I think of 1991 as more the eighties/nineties cutoff.  It's good to be positive :)

One must remember, though, that 1997 is 8 years ago!  :o  I think of it as being about four or five yrs ago still!

Jack White from The White Stripes

Davey Havok from AFI

Chester Bennington from Linkin Park

and last but not least Gackt  :)

Morten Harket is also a great singer.  Too bad you can't understand 2/3 of the words he says  :-\\

Hmm..those are some interesting options. I'll pass.

I have to say that my favorite singers would be people who can actually sing like:

Aretha
Patti LaBelle
Janis Joplin

Destinny's Child or the Backstreet Boys? None of them. Usher is good but I wouldn;t say he's my fave singer well; now he is but not all time.

I would say fave rock singers:

Scott Weiland(STP, Velvet Revolver.)
Dave Gahan(Depeche Mode)
Berrnard Summer(New Order.)
Billie Joe Armstrong(Green Day) (Yeah,I  like Green Day.)
Chino Mereno(Deftones)

Pop/R&B singers:

Tevin Campbell
R. Kelly
Babyface
Toni Braxton(love her 90's work and voice too.)
Alexander O' Neal(underrated underrated, underrated.)
Ronald Isley
Lionel Richie
Taylor Dayne

For the 00's 2002 is the 90's/00's cut off despite some 90's musical genres still influencing some 00's music.
