You do have a point, I never felt like I'd be nostalgic about any part of the 90s.  But stuff after 1998 I know too well to ever feel nostalgic about.  I'll always see the bad stuff as BAD and not cheesy.  :P

Just to be different, I'd say the 2000's are better because good ol' President Bush is starting to clean some stuff up.

Just to inform you, 1992-95 was nothing like the 80s and 1990-91 had enough 90s feel to please a 90s fan like yourself  ;)

How are they the same in any sense?  1997-99 yes, to some extent, but how can you say the early or mid 90s is anything like today?  In 1993 Pearl Jam was the rage with teens.  Nowadays nobody cares unless they like them as the forefathers of modern rock they are.  Today kids either listen to their Linkin Park, Modest Mouse, or emo music.  As for TV, there was almost no reality until late 2000, not even in 1999.  Movies are so much more advanced and frequent today too.

The only similarity between 1990-96 and 2000-2004 really is that the media can show stuff in each periods that they never could before 1992 or so.  And also they both had Bushes and Iraq Wars  ;)

Heck in my class a lot of kids like pearl jam, metallica, pink floyd, etc. It seems like the hip-hop is more popular with the pre-teens and maybe up to 14, then they actually start to develop some music tastes and learn what good music is. I remember what was popular in the mid-90s it was you know smashing pumpkins, foo fighters, weezer, etc.

Old music doesn't neccessarily mean good, but all the bands you listed are good.  Some kids change their tastes, but about 50-70% of teens in my area dig the mainstream rap.  In the late 90s and 2000-01, when I lived in Montana, rap wasn't that big, but that could have been the location.

R&b was also big in the mid '90s it wasn't all grunge like some people think, that's why I disagree with nirvana defining '90s pop culture because they were big for like 2 years. Not that I don't like Nirvana, I think they're pretty good, but there was a lot of other music throughout the '90s beside grunge.

Overall worse. The 1990s still had a bit of decent rock n' roll, and the rap wasn't as annoying. Also I enjoyed the movies of the 90s much better. You had classic stuff like Casino, Goodfellas, Pulp Fiction, Fargo, The Big Lebowski, Resevoir Dogs, Natural Born Killers, and so on. My favorite genre is obviously 'crime related' films, and the 90s was a GREAT decade for that genre. Maybe more so than any other decade in film history, actually.

Worse....though I DID find this wonderful place with all of you awesome people.....My son Blaine was taken away from this earth....and THAT makes 2000-2004 the worst times EVER >:( :\'(
