OK, but it ain't gonna look so hot when you're twenty years older, thirty pounds heavier, and have borne three children.  And why do you want to smear yourself with symbols of female objectification--the Playboy Bunny and the pin-up girl?  Do you want to be viewed as a sex object?

Oh, of course you do.  I forgot, young women don't want equality and respect anymore.  They want to work in strip clubs and star in pornographic internet videos.  Sorry, I'll butt out.
:-\\ :P

And you mean "tattoos," with a double "t" and no apostrophe.  You don't need the apostrophe for plurals, just for contractions and to show possession.

Hey, if you don't mind having a needle stuck in you hundreds of times, you're much braver than me!

All I can say, is think CAREFULLY about it...  I wanted a tattoo when I was about 21, but I am glad I decided not to get it...  Remember, it's gonna stay with you for the rest of your life, you can't just peel it off in 10 years when you're into different things...

And please DONT get your boyfriend's name tattooed on you.

Especially if he's got a really long name such as Nebuchadnezzar or Agamemnon, that's a lot of tattooing, could take forever and hurt a lot!

anywho I dont care about what I get..its art..art goes on paper people pay money for it..same thing except its on your body..and when I'm 50 60 and 70 I dont plan to dress to show them off as long I know that I have them I dont care if others do or not...and I do love pain pain is good to a certain extent...I'm not really scared of the pain pain does not bother me and when men get tats are people going to view them as sexy?? and for more information..I'm not trying to impress anybody including men I dont care..the only man in my life that I need to impress is my lovingboyfriend whom I dont have to try hard because hes already impressed by me...

I owe you an apology for that post.  I'm sorry.  It was rude.

I do disagree with the popular culture's take on tattoos as profound artistic statements of self.  I find the whole phenomenon of tats and piercings shallow and narcissistic.  Shallow narcissism is what makes the image-obsessed consumer culture thrive.  To me, a tattoo signifies not rebellion or individuality but conformity to the status quo.

That said, it is still none of my d*mn business what anybody else does with his or her body, unless he or she is doing it to me!

Well, Alicia. let me tell you this: when my wife was 20, she thought tattoos were art, too.

When my wife turned 30, we spent almost $10,000 trying to remove her tattoos, because she no longer liked the image of herself they presented.

And, $10,000 later, there are still quite visible remnants of them.

When her students ask her about tattoos, her response is to wait until they are 30 and see if they still want them.

The balance on our MasterCard agrees.

I think that it is up the individual whether they want a tattoo or not, and not all of us tattooed chicks are slutty or into dodgy stuff, I for one got my tattoo because it meant something to me, and just for the record, I'm a Legal Executive, so I'm not stupid, either.

Rant over.

Oh, and mine is a fairy, Erin.

I believe that tattoos can be done in a very tasteful way.....and I think they are beautiful....I don't necessarily love to see people with them covering their entire body...but I see nothing wrong or trashy with a few in the right places.

Here is some advise on what NOT to do when getting inked. DO NOT GET DRUNK!!
I was at a Kwik-E-Mart once, buying some cigarettes, when I noticed the cashier (a man who looked to be in his late 40's-early 50's) had the words "BORN LOOSER" tattooed on his forearm. (It looked like it was a homemade job.)
You know whenever Bugs Bunny outwits Elmer Fudd, and Elmer Fudd will pause for a second and his head will turn into a donkey's head with the word "JACK@SS?" That's exactly what happened to that cashier when I saw his tattoo. It was all I could do not to bust out laughing.

???You were born with a pure body-I feel- WHY MARK IT UP?
If it's an art thing-I feel- that's what WALLS ARE FOR.
If we were meant to have classy images on our bodies, I feel WE WOULD HAVE BEEN BORN WITH THEM.
For people who were born with a portwine stain on their faces or mole blotch, maybe they can get a tattoo that works it into a  'piece of art' but we don't really see that happening.

How far back do tattoos go anyway?
Have we found depictions of ancients with them?

If they are 'freedom of expressions', why are they NOT tolerated in corporate work places?
Sure, maybe there are many well meaning artistic/spiritual people out there with them, in discreet places...what are THEY saying- 'hey, I like butterflies but DON'T want you to see it"?

Just a brief rant but maybe others feel that way too....

Pacific Islanders have been tatooing their bodies for many thousands of years.  The Egyptians even longer.  Mayans, Incans, Aztecs etc etc. Find a website with pictures of preserved mummies and you will see plenty of ancient body art.
The practise didnt come about just for pirates and prisoners who wanted to write "Mom" on their arms !!

Like speech - there will always be freedom of expression - and if people want to express themselves via body art - go for it.

Maybe kids back THEN were bored out of their minds so they took up drawing on themselves....as they didn't have cameras back then..finally when cameras were invented I wonder if the tattoo business suffered and just comes back now as an extention of expression...we as before...they had no way to memorialize whatever they drew on themselves.

On these ancients, what was the most popular design? Maybe that might give insight to where their heads were at...and why don't we see ancients with tats of 3 headed dogs or dragons...I think NOW it is just for expressions unexpressable. :-\\

Maybe if this interests you so much - you could do some research ? just a suggestion. Beats putting down all the many millions of people over the centuries who have partaken in body art.

Pacific Islanders generally had tattoo's which were symbols which identified who they were, what tribe they were from, what family within that tribe etc. They would also record battles on their bodies. So naturally when a tribe was faced with a heavily tattoo'd tribe - they would know they were looking at a group who had fought and won a lot of battles - and would fear them.  The facial tatoo's were also done to scare off the enemy - to make the warriors look fiercer.  Many of the Islander that I know today still keep with the tradition of having the family tribal details recorded on their bodies.

Australian Aboriginals also have permenant body art in the form of intentional inflicted scarring. This was done at puberty and then thru life. The skin is cut deeply, then ash is rubbed in the wound to make a big scar.

Egyptians et al had their gods tattoo'd on their bodies to show who they were loyal too.

ewwww how sweet.....

yes the tat has been around for centuries but when they become a billboard- like the walls of the NY subways- it loses its appeal...but do people get them for appeal..I thought that was what was part of the 'art' of a tattoo...save your expressive WORDS for the chalkboard to be erased when it becomes olde.

Have we found any 'ancient' markings with names like I LUV CLEO(PATRA)..??
At least they were artistic murals depicting beautious scenes from a hula girl on an island or a boat...

if I kept all the things that I wrote with ink on me, I'd have an armful of friends outdated  phone numbers....and the answers to Mr. McNulty's 3rd period English test :D

Hey,my favorite band, P.O.D. are Christians....and their tattoos express their faith in God. Besides, the ones inked on the band's frontman,Sonny Sandoval, are really cool and well-drawn...he has a cool-looking dragon on one arm....also the word "Redeemed"...way cool IMHO.

Purple is my fave colour too - my entire house is in various shade of it !!
The tatt is my zodiac symobol in the middle (libran) and just medieval graphics at the top and bottom.  My friend is currently designing me another one which will be basic black - not quite cartoonish - a monkey holding scales - to represent both my chinese and western astrology - I am a Libran Monkey :)  And when I can afford another one - she has also designed me a bracelet that will be done in black and purple on my left wrist.
