Subject: "The Dukes of Hazzard" movie

Written By: ElDuderino on 04/10/05 at 12:51 pm

Anyone heard about this? It looks like HORRIBLE..

Here is a rundown of the cast:

Seann William Scott - Bo Duke. This guy is a really crap actor, and has only one or two mildy funny roles. This is "Stifler" from American Pie.

Johnny Noxville - Luke Duke.  Not sure about this one. Haven't really watched him in that movie. But I don't have much confidence since he did that "Jacka$$" show.

Jessica Simpson - Daisy Duke. HORRIBLE. Just..horrible. I seriously doubt she can act at ALL. Daisy is not a complete moron like Simpson, she is not blonde, and she has a pretty face and nice butt too. Simpson has a really ugly face, and as far as her body all she has is her (fake) boobs.

Burt Reynolds - Boss Hog. Reynolds is a good actor, but he is just terribly miscast here. I was hoping that they would use prostetics to make him fat, but they didn't. I've seen pics of him in costume, and its just bad. Hes as skinny as a rail, and looks to be in pretty ugly shape.

Willie Nelson - Uncle Jesse. This might be decent casting, I'm not sure how well Willie can act..but he looks the part. A bit thin, but its not a big deal.

David Koechner - Cooter. Not a dead ringer, but this guy looks the part overall. He is MARVELOUS in Anchorman as Champ(Whammy!), so this might be really good casting.

M.C. Gainey - Rosco P. Coltrane. He doesn't look the part at all..I've seen him in small roles in Terminator 3 and The New Guy, but he didn't really stand out. I don't have much confidence in this one either.

As for the director, Jay Chandrasekhar, he did direct "Super Troopers" which was kinda funny, and claims to be a fan of movies like "The Blues Brothers" and "Smokey and the Bandit", but I don't know. He may surprise me with really good direction.

Overall, it looks like this film will be sheeshe. The casting is for the most part horrible, and they could have gotten a better director. And because of the two guys starring as Bo and Luke, I have a bad feeling it might just be a parody of the original series.

IF they weren't going to do this right, why didn't they leave it alone? :(  >:(

Talk about raping someone's childhood..

M.C. Gainey also did an awesome job playingf the role of real-life LAPD Vice Squad Detective Tom Blake (screen role was renamed "Billy Ward") in the film Wonderland back in 2003.  Wonderland was the fact-based story of the infamous Laurel Canyon quadruple murders, and the involvement of porn star John C. Holmes in the whole bloody mess.

I could see him as Roscoe P. Coltrane.  :)

Wonderland was an awesome movie with excellent acting by many actors, including Lisa Kudrow in a rare (for her) dramatic role, portraying John Holmes' long-suffering wife, Sharon.

Are you kiddin Dude! I can't wait for it to come out.. I love cheese and this will no doubt be a CHEESY  flick.
I think they missed Boss Hogg by a loooooooooong shot who could've been better than Danny Devito?

I'm sorry but I don't want it to be pure cheese like it looks to be. The original show was definitely part comedy and not completely serious, but it wasn't a freaking self-parody like this is shaping up to be. Ever since they did that with The Brady Bunch a few years back they want to self-parody every television show they make into a movie.

And here is a better choice for Boss Hogg than Danny DeVito:

Timothy Spall

He is a decent actor and a DEAD RINGER for Boss Hogg. He is English, so I figure that he would have a pretty easy time with a Southern accent(most English actors do).

Although I enjoyed it as a kid (mainly because of its visceral impact), Dukes Of Hazzard WAS a corny show, and I don't see what the fuss is all about. I mean, come on. It's not like they're remaking Citizen Kane here. And I'll bet anyone here I can predict the plot of the movie:

1.) Duke boys are out cruising around when out-of-town bad guys roll into town (which was never named in the series) and pull some kind of heist.

2.) Boss Hogg automatically blames Duke boys for crime, sends Roscoe and Enos after them, captures them at Uncle Jesse's farm and imprisons them.

3.) Daisy distracts Enos by seducing him, Bo and Luke escape from jail.

4.) Roscoe and Enos chase Bo and Luke. General Lee jumps creek successfully, Roscoe and Enos land in creek, Duke boys get away.

5.) Duke boys find real criminals, get in fistfight, subdue bad guys, Roscoe and Enos arrest real criminals.

6.) Duke boys decide not to sue Boss Hogg for false arrest, some major country music star's tour bus just happens to break down in front of the Boar's Nest, everyone parties down and has a good ol' time.

I'd say that about 80% of all episodes of the Dukes Of Hazzard had some variation on this plot. Not exactly a show that kept me in suspense, no matter how many times the General Lee would freeze in midair and Waylon Jennings would say something to the effect of, "Uh, oh, how are the Duke boys gonna get out of this one?" just before every commercial.

I also think that they should've cast Randy Quaid as Roscoe.

Bonus points if you can name the star whose bus breaks down. Although he's not technically a country star, I'll put my money on Kid Rock. ;D

(BTW I love cheese too and actually am quite eager to see this movie. I just don't get why some people have such reverence for the Dukes Of Hazzard. It was a goofy show, so expect a goofy movie.)

I'm adding X-tra cheese and going with Nick Lachey and the 98 Degrees boys.  ;D

Let's all just hope and pray that they don't make a "CHiPs" movie. That would be a sacrelige!!! ;D

Yeah its not Citizen Kane, but its not right for them to make the movie as a self-parody. Which is what it looks like.

But you see, your Dudeness (I liked your old name better  ;)), what made the original Dukes of Hazzard so great was that it never took itself seriously. I mean, we're talking about 2 guys who drove a bright orange Charger with a huge Rebel flag on the roof. The entire show was based on almost every possible cliche about the South that you can think of (except for its racist past).  In other words. I think it would be almost impossible to make a decent movie about the Dukes of Hazzard without some elements of self-parody. Now I can understand some of your concerns, and if it turns out like the "Brady Bunch" movie then I agree, it'll be a complete turd. But I doubt that'll happen. As long as I feel like I've been entertained after watching this movie, then I'll be satisfied. After all, that's all I ever asked of the original show. I could take comfort in the fact that I never had to hear the words, "Next, on a very special episode of the Dukes of Hazzard..."

They already made a CHiPS reunion show a couple of years ago.

Paunch and John were up to their usual hijinx.

Let's just say that Erik Estrada doesn't fit into his old CHiPS uniform anymore.

;) ;D
