Subject: When did/will the Zero Decade have its core years?

Written By: DevoRule on 04/24/05 at 7:00 pm

I'd say 2006 to 2009 and possibly into the 2010s will be the most definitive years of the "Zero Decade".  2003 is when I'd say things became distinctly 2000s.

Well, I'd say 2001 (certainly after 9/11, but it started to breka away from the 90's that year anyway) or 2002 was the start.

The main 2000's probably started in 2004 (specifically toward the end - early 2004 still seemed not "90's" but not much different than 2001-03). The nu-wave bands and the more flashy fashions I'm starting to see now are starting to define this decade, but due to the fact that it's getting off to a slow start compared to the 90's, I think 2000's culture will spill over into the 2010's.

Just like how the 60's still looked like the 50's as late as 1963/64, the "main" 2000's will likely be seen as about 2005-2013.

Agreed. 1997-2002 isn't really 90s or 00s, it's sorta a thing of its own.  I'd say by 06 or 07 things will feel a lot different.  It's funny how the "60s" are really more the late 60s and early 70s.
