Subject: "Transitional Periods" in all decades.

Written By: Marty McFly on 07/06/05 at 12:39 am

Just to put it all into one thread - this is just about the transitional periods between two decades.

For instance, to me the real 80's (I mean 100%) started in 1983 - though they were mostly in by 1982 - and they began transforming in 1978. So the 70's to the 80's "transitional period" would be 1978-82. Now, for every set of decades:

The 50s to the 60s - Late 1963-1966
The 60s to the 70s - 1969-1971
The 70s to the 80s - 1978-1982
The 80s to the 90s - 1988-1992
The 90s to the 2000s - 1997-2001

Does this sound accurate? Thoughts or comments? ;)

Seems fairly accurate accept the '50s to the '60s one being 1963-1966, that makes no sense. The correct "transition period" for those decades would be more like 1959-1963 or so.

^ Good point. :)

It probably seems a little off, but I always thought the bridge of the "50s-like" culture was late 1963 (JFK's assassination) to around 1966 - the "counterculture" movement kicked in 100% in '67.

Of course I wasn't there for it, but from what I know and have seen, that whole 1959 to late 1963 era really blurs together. In fact, you could even argue that the early 60s were quieter and more conservative than the "main" 50s (say 1954-58) since it was kind of an inbetween period of pop culture - after the initial explosion of the 50s, before the British Invasion.

When I think of the 60's, what comes to mind are hippies, the Vietnam War, psychedelic rock, the moon landing, etc. That pretty much all happened in the relatively short span of, say 1967-70, maybe a very little left over in '71 too.

I think 1963-1966 would be correct, bacause real rock and roll started to become less popular, and the psychadelic stuff started--plus the polyester and minis.

so the real 60's didn't begin until 1967?
