Subject: Movie remakes you'd like to see

Written By: La Sine Pesroh on 07/22/05 at 1:34 pm

As we endure another summer of lame Hollywood remakes of old movies and TV shows, I was thinking that maybe we could help these poor studio execs out and come up with some remake ideas of our own. Here's a couple I've been kicking around:

Knight Rider. Set in the present day, with K.I.T.T. being in the same condition that you find most 1982 Pontiac Firebirds to be in today. Meaning he's all banged up, his tailpipe's dragging, and he's got plastic crap hanging all off him. (Oh yeah, and he has one of his pop-up headlights stuck open all the time. That's a must.) Michael Knight is now a two-fisted drinker, and K.I.T.T. serves as little more than Michael's personal taxi to shuttle him from seedy tavern to seedy tavern. They argue a lot, and K.I.T.T.'s beat up condition is in large part due to his habit of ramming into police cruisers to get back at Michael every time he pukes on K.I.T.T.'s upholstery. (The exchange between Michael and the ofiicer could be a comic goldmine. MICHAEL: "I swear, Ossifer, it wasn't me, it was the car! C'mon, K.I.T.T., say something, darnit!" COP: "Ok, wiseguy, let's go!") At some point people would expect both Michael and K.I.T.T. to pull themselves together and foil some terrorist plot or something, but I think it'd be better to leave them all broken down and have them just kind of wander around the U.S. and have various run-ins with local yokels. Add a kind of Cheech and Chong vibe into the mix and you could have one of the great comedy classics of all time.

Christine. Also set in the present day, except the geeky kid inexplicably is smitten with a red 1988 Plymouth Sundance (in stark contrast to the sleek 1958 Plymouth Fury of the original). The kid spends all his time and money restoring the car, and still no one thinks he's cool. Plot pretty much follows the original, except that now whenever the car gets angry the radio starts blaring songs by Wham! or Wang Chung.  Car still goes on rampages, as in the original, but due to its flimsy construction it really doesnt do a whole lot of damage to other vehicles. Film ends when Christine's odometer hits 50,000 miles and car completely falls apart. The reason? It has reached the end of its 5 year/50,000 mile warranty that Chrysler made famous in the 80's. (The 5 year part was negated in the restoration.)

Any others?

Soylent Green (movie)

That is one of my all time favorites.  I don't know if they could do it better.
I'd like to see them do the "Lovejoy" series only closer to the way the books are.

The Faust legend is one of the most filmed themes in history, with "The Devil's Advocate", "The Devil and Daniel Webster", "The Devil and Max Devlin", etc. I would like to see the full text version in the German language Goethe would have wanted. (Although that would be very long and maybe tiresome.)

Some remakes are awesome and some royally suck.  So by saying this, I'd only want the remakes to be made if they held true to the original if the goal of the movie was to entertain through story and character not sexual rubbish perversions.  In other words I think the new Bad News Bears is a disgrace to the old one with Walter Matthue(Spelled wrong)

Halloween

Bloodsport

I'll stop the world and melt with you
Yeah, you'll melt when you're 24 years are up and you're burning in hell!

BTW, the skin flick title "The Devil in Miss Jones was a spoof on the 1941 Jean Arthur picture, "The Devil and Miss Jones.
http://imdb.com/title/tt0033533/

Speaking of religious references:
I would like to see a remake of Oh God with Donald Rumsfeld instead of George Burns!

I would like to see John Waters' The Passion of the Christ with Pee-Wee Herman as Jesus, Rikki Lake as Mary Magdalen, Mink Stole as Mother Mary, Steve Buscemi as Peter, John Goodman as Judas, and Dennis Hopper as Pontias Pilate.

What I'd like to see is a Three's Company film a teen version but they would make it Rated R and push the envelope a bit with bikini clad women like Janet and Chrissy lookalikes, some vulgarity and mild violence. ;D

I'd like to see a remake/prequel to the movie Wonderland.

I am amazed that there has never been a theatrical movie about the life of legendary screen actor John Holmes.

"Boogie Nights" was a cheesy film that I don't count as "theatrical".

Howard, if you're remaking Lynda Carter productions, how about a remake of her classic movie, "Bobbie Jo and the Outlaw"? ???

She had a couple of great nudie scenes in that flick.  I remember seeing it at the drive-in movie when it came out.

Days of Thunder...with today's NASCAR stock cars....and with the characters taking on the characteristics, personality and attitude-wise, of REAL drivers like Dale Jr., Kurt Busch, Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon, Mark Martin, Rusty Wallace and others...

I wonder which actors would be best to play the driver characters for each of the above...

and a certain parody of disaster movies called

AIRPLANE!
But this time make the aircraft an unreliable Beechcraft ATR! Or the Concorde!

I'm not a big fan of remakes...

but I DO like "reunion" movies from old tv shows.. such as "The Facts Of Life Down Under" and "A Very Brady Christmas", etc.  as long as they have the original cast.

I'd like to see a reunion movie for:

Who's The Boss?
The Cosby Show
21 Jumpstreet
Full House

...among others...
