Subject: Flight atrendants boycott recent Jodie Foster movie

Written By: Electric Youth on 10/01/05 at 5:47 pm

Nothing political and slightly a bit dumb to be on the political forum, but felt like posting this.

I've seen "40 Year Old Virgin" (BTW, a funny movie), and don't see Best Buy  or any electronic store people up in rage about the portrayal of the employees.  ::)

Heard on the news that a group of flight attendants want to boycott the recent Jodie Foster movie.

Another case of "political correctness", though I don't see anything offensive besides that it looks to be a generic  and boring crime drama.

Thats kinda silly.
But I'm boycotting the movie for a different reason:  cuz it looks like a friggin duplicate of "The Forgotten"

The dumb movie  is titled "Flightplan"  ::)

Like Jody Foster wants to make her comeback, but I was in diapers when she peaked with the "Lambs" movie

No offense to Foster fans, and I know it's on the top 10.

It's just not my cup of tea.  :)

And I'm not sure when "Silence In The Lambs" came out, but that was over 15 years ago.

Good to see a veteran actress still doing movies.

Ahem, Youth  ::) --

Jodie Foster doesn't need a "comeback".  She's been very successful as an actress and director, and she's been working steadily for many years, taking on projects that interest her.  She's never been particularly interested in making 'blockbusters'.  The success of 'Silence of the Lambs' was atypical, and if you recall, she CHOSE not to do the prequel -- that's not something she would do if commercial success was a top priority.

Just because she's not the bimbo-of-the-moment making a 3rd rate movie every six months doesn't mean she needs a comeback.  Lets see where Keira Knightley, Bennifer Garner and those guys are 15 years from now.  Somehow, I don't think they will have any Academy Awards on THEIR mantelpieces, and they won't have Foster's classic looks, big brain or Yale degree to fall back on either!

;D

Well, for the record, as a 43-year old Virgin (Records store employee) I was very offended by the way people like me were portrayed in that movie, and a wrote a letter to Steve Carrell saying so.  And he wrote back -- he is SUCH a nice man!

There's a  very few good actresses today like Brittany Murphy today, though most of her movies since "Don't Say A Word" and the "so bad it's good"  "Just Married" are lame ("Little Black Book", "Uptown Girls").

Also Scarlett Johanson, which wasn't in any "bimbo roles" that I know of like "Lost In Translation".

Just because there aren't any good movies mean that there aren't any good actors.

Silence of the Lambs is a great movie!  I knew I had to see it as soon as I saw the first review:  You've got this one serial killer called Hannibal the Cannibal for reasons to disgusing to mention, and this other serial killer named Buffalo Bill, for reasons far to disgusting to mention...."
:D
It's funny how Lector became one the most-imitated cinema villains.  We used to just bust out laughing doing Hannibal Lector and Buffalo Bill impressions!

Hannibal the Cannibal is pretty obvious, but why is the other one called Buffalo Bill? (if you can say it without grossing us out!)
I saw this a long time ago, so I don't remember it very well.  :-\\

"It rubs the lotion on its skin or else it gets the hose again."

And come to think of it, shoe salesmen should have been upset about the way Al Bundy portrayed them in "Married with Children".  ;D

Jesus "Woops". How many screen names do you have? You were "Maddie", "AshleyTisdale" and who knows how many others. Now "Electric Youth". Looks like you're the one that keeps trying to make a comeback.

A flight attendant is a person who attends flights.  Get it, got it, good!

It used to be just a job for pretty blonde chickies, so I guess "stewardess" was fine.  But when men started doing it, maybe they found "steward" to servile, so they changed it to the gender neutral "flight attendant."

PS.  Did you know the longest word you can type using only your left hand is "stewardesses"?  Wow, I'll bet you've been waiting all your life just to find that out!

I don't remember...did cab drivers boycott Taxi Driver because Travis Bickle was a nutjob?  What about the TV show "Taxi" for making them all look like a bunch of weirdos and goofs?
People are waaaay too touchy!  Anyway, I don't care if the flight attendant likes me, just fetch me my gin & tonic!

Like Brittany Murphy said, "I'll Never Tell". Though some could guess from the source of the screen name.
