Now hey wait a minute, the kid's name is Jor-El or Kal-El?
That's why all the celebrities have to send their kids to the same private school, so their kids won't get their name laughed at!

P.O.D.'s frontman Sonny Sandoval's first child is a girl that he named Nevaeh...I did not get it until I read an interview with Sonny and he explained that his little girl's name is heaven spelled backwards. I think the name was inspired by his Christian faith...it's actually a pretty name IMO.

2 of my children have fairly typical names.  The third one is somewhat unusual.

Johnathan Paul is my oldest.  His name from from my Paternal Grandfather Johnathan, and my middle name Paul.

My youngest son is David Michael.  David is from my Maternal Uncle, and Michael is from my first name.

My middle one is the exception.  My Fiancee' liked Zachary, and I liked Shane.  I ler her use her name as his first name, on the condition that I picked the middle name.  Of course, she agreed that id we had any other kids, the first name was my choice.

Of course, this did not happen.  She did not like the idea of him being a "Junior", so I switched his name, making Michael his middle name.  It made her happy, so that is all that really mattered.

Of course, my uncle David is a bit of an unusual case.  A Vietnam Vet Marine, he became a Conservative Hippie after returning from the war.  His son is named Tivian, and he never did explain where he got the name from.  :P

I went to elementary school with a kid named "Kilo."  His father was a drug dealer, you see.  Its' true!
There was this kid in kindergarten named "Zebediah Kellogg-Rowe."  Zebediah is a fine Biblical name, Kellogg and Rowe are common surnames, but it was just the way the names rolled off the tongue that made it weird.  What's weirder is my stepbrother ran into him in college. "Did you say you went to kindergarten with a kid named Zebediah Kellog Rowe?"  It's not a name you forget!
Some years back there was a student at the prep school where my stepmother teaches named "Tapley Anne Mudge."
I knew a "Tomato Joplin Weisberg."

Back in my hometown there was a

Touche Ole Green (a cute little girl, unusual name)

and a

Chianti Taylor

I once had a boyfriend whose mother's first name is Cherry

Back in high school, my friend and I were talking, she said she wanted to name her children: Rainy Day and Stormy Night (I don't think she ever did though, I lost track of her)

You'd think people would have some common sense...

I have a colleague who's first name is Cock (I'm not joking!), which is a very unusual first name even in The Netherlands.

And I know of a boy who's first name is Brandt. Now that may not seem unusual to you, but you have to realize that his name is pronounced the same way as the Dutch word for "fire" (i.e "brand"). So whenever his parents call for their child, the neighnourhood will probably think there's a fire somewhere...

Cherry was a relatively common name--and more common nickname--for women before the sexual connotation became ubiquitous.  My great-aunt's name was Edith, though nobody ever called her Edith, her name was "Cherry."  They started calling her Cherry when she was a kid because it matched her personality--bright, cheerful, sweet, jovial.  All her official documents said "Edith," but Cherry was what everyone called her for 75 years!

I actually knew a girl named Rainy Day.  Her boyfriend's name was Sun, that was his real name, and no, he wasn't Asian.  So it was Sun and Rainy Day.  Sad they were both junkies drifting from clinics to junkie squats and back.  I haven't seen either of the in many years, and I don't really want to know what became of them.

There were two Korean brothers in my town, the older one was named Sea Sun, they younger one was named...Andrew.  Andy used to tell people his name was "Sea Moon" for a joke.

When my stepbrother was in kindergarten, two of his classmates were brothers named (not quite sure of spelling here) Ragnaard and Haggelbaard O'Brien.  Maybe the parents were into reading Norse sagas or something!
:P

I used to work with this girl who named her daughter, "Deja Vu".  Then....one time we had this lady come in to my place of employment to show us how to use our new computer system...and her name was Pepsi. She said that it was not a nickname....but that her mother loved Pepsi.....odd, huh?

I'm sure you'll find that and variants thereon if you check enough birth registers in local newspapers.

Don't let anybody tell you the toilet was invented by Sir Thomas Crapper.  That's an urban myth.

I recall a story about a lady who supported Fair Play for Cuba who named her three children Lee, Harvey, and Oswald.  This too may be an urban myth.

Sir Thomas Crapper patented a flushing toilet, the toilet was invented long before he was born, even before Roman times.
