Written By: Philip Eno on 12/14/05 at 4:04 am

Cricket Australia has delayed the announcement of the schedule for next year's Ashes series.

The fixtures were due to be released on Tuesday but this has been delayed in order to fine tune the programme.

The five Tests will have to be fitted in between the Champions Trophy, which ends in November, and the World Cup, which begins in March 2007. "Cricket Australia is still hopeful to be able to confirm the programme in the short term," said a statement and the speculation suggests the series will be squeezed into a six-week window.

It was announced today.

From news.com.au:

CRICKET Australia has vigorously defended its jam-packed 2006-07 Ashes schedule, with the first match of the five-Test series to be played in Brisbane on November 23 next year.

The whirlwind series will end over six weeks later with the traditional Melbourne and Sydney Tests on December 26-30 and January 2-6 respectively.
Fresh from the ICC Champions Trophy in India earlier in November 2006, Ashes holder England will play the Prime Minister's XI in Canberra for a tour-opener on November 10 in Canberra, a practice match in Sydney against NSW on November 12-14 and a tour game against South Australia in Adelaide from November 17-19 ahead of the Brisbane Test.

The second Test is in Adelaide from December 1-5, followed by a Chairman's XI game against an Invitational XI at Lilac Hill on December 8 and a two-day tour match Western Australia in Perth on December 9-10.

The third Test in Perth from December 14-18 will precede the traditional Melbourne and Sydney Tests.

England's only warm-up game before its opening tri-series one-dayer against Australia in Melbourne on January 12, 2007, will be a Twenty20 game against the home side at the SCG on January 9.

I hope Australia can come up with some better bowlers between now and then.
