Some infomercials are kinda cool in a cheesy kind of way.

I want to run an infomercial for a new line of condooms.  ;D

Occasionally they can be entertaining.  I kind of like Ron Popeil's infomercials, he seems to know how to get a crowd fired up. But for the most part I don't like them, because before they became prevalent, the time slots that they usually appear in (weekend afternoons and late at night) used to be filled by reruns of classic TV shows. Maybe TV Land is in on this scheme.

I actually kinda enjoy watching Infomercials....I dunno, there is something about being up at 4 am and finding something interesting in those kinds of products. :D

Yes, I'd say it's more fun watching than buying those products.

Most are moronic

Many are scams:

With the exception of the George Foreman Grill and the Ron Popeil Rotisserie cooker, much of the other stuff our family and friends have bought was total crap, that is, if they ever got delivered in the first place.

All are irritating.

If I see any more Matthew Lesko or Carleton Sheets infocrap.....I'm so dam sick and tired of informercials from those two rip-off artists....their get-rich-quick schemes are most likely too good to be true!

My brother and I use to stay up late to watch this infomercial called "Amazing Discoveries." It had this guy who hosted it (almost like a TV show, but it was clearly an infomercial) and it actually was kinda fun to watch. Those have at least been off the air for longer than 10 years, but I kinda wish I had taped one to kinda bring back some funny (if strange) memories.

I wonder if either Carleton Sheets or Lesko have been investigated as scammers?

I remember seeing an infomercial about 10 years ago for an alleged baldness cure called the "Hair Farm."  It consisted of this thing you strapped around your head, a brush, and some goo you were supposed to squirt on your head. It was such an obvious fly-by-night operation that I can't believe it actually got on the air. The "pitchman" had a thick New Jersey accent, and he had an "operator" that was "standing by," but it seemed to me like she was really his girlfriend or wife and the whole thing looked like it was taped inside a crappy motel room. The funniest part, though, was the "before and after" pictures.  The "after" pictures looked like a bald guy who laid a piece of shag carpet on top of his head. It was by far the most poorly and cheaply made infomercial I've ever seen, and anyone dopey enough to send these creeps any of their hard-earned money deserved exactly what they got.

I remember Amazing Discoveries.  I used to often watch those informercials on Sunday afternoons.  That dude who hosted was Mike Levey.  He appeared on an episode of Friends when Joey did a spot on Amazing Discoveries as the guy who didn't know how to open a carton of milk  ;D

It hasn't been on for a long time, but do you all remember Ron Popeil's G.L.O.(Great Looking Hair)?
I always thought of it as basically head mascara in aerosol form.  ;D

Add me to the list of people who hate infomercials. I hate it when you are channel surfing at five o'clock in the morning, and there is nothing on cable but commercials for zit lotion and hair conditioner!  :D

Was that the spray-on hair for bald guys? I always wondered if that actually looked convincing in real life.

Almost every infomercial is the same.  Almost all of them claim their product "saves time and money".  Very repetitive too.

Not to mention Girls Gone Wild and all its bastardizations.  I mean, couldn't the knockoffs at least get more original names?  Girls Get Crazy, Wild Party Girls, etc.  It isn't just the tacky concept itself, but the way they hype it.  You know, they show a girl lifting her shirt, and in big block letters over her breasts it says "UNCENSORED!" which seems rather ironic.

YOU WOULDN'T BELIEVE WHAT THESE WILD COLLEGE COEDS DO!!!111OMFG

I think infomercials are a waste of time. I miss the days when you could watch movies on TV into the wee hours, movies that were pretty cool, stuff like 'Dial M for Murder' and "War of the Worlds'...oh well, television has sold out to the almighty dollar...sad. I rarely watch TV anymore except for NASCAR races and NFL on FOX..
