Subject: Soccer Parents Upset About Swinger Party Held In Their Orlando Hotel

Written By: Schillingfan on 01/07/06 at 12:50 pm

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - Some teenage players and their parents got to see more than they bargained for while attending a Disney soccer showcase, all courtesy of about 200 swingers who were having a New Year's party at their hotel.

Paul Camporini brought his wife, seventh-grade daughter and eighth-grade son from Safety Harbor, Fla., and said he had to "delicately explain to my Catholic school children that swingers change partners during the evening."

"My biggest gripe is that the hotel had two distinctly different groups under the same roof," said Camporini, 49. "A soccer team and middle-aged swingers should not have been booked together."

The families said the sexually adventurous partygoers sometimes flashed breasts and bare buttocks in front of the children as they sashayed through the hotel atrium. The parents described the dress at the Crowne Plaza Hotel-Airport in Orlando as "raunchy, despicable and worse than prostitutes."

"We thought we were coming to Orlando, not the Las Vegas Strip," said Mark Gilbert, the father of a boy who plays on the Clearwater Chargers, a group of 13-under players from Florida.

The teams booked the $92-a-night rooms for Disney's Soccer Showcase, and said hotel management did not tell them about the swingers' party or try to keep the partygoers away from the children.

Hotel managers did not immediately respond to a call seeking comment Tuesday. All of the swingers had checked out of the hotel by late Sunday.

"We're not prudes by any means," said Rob Young of Greenville, S.C., who said his two daughters, Leah, 13 and Lauren, 11, asked questions he struggled to answer. "We would have liked to have been informed when we checked into the hotel so we could have made other arrangements.

"The kids could see through the glass atrium into the ballroom where naked people were dancing. There were exposed breasts, thongs and see-through dresses on women who were not wearing any underwear."

Young said he complained to hotel management and to John Hollis, an off-duty Orlando police officer hired by the hotel for a New Year's Eve security detail. He said neither did anything to help.

Lieut. John Mina, a watch commander for the Orlando Police Department, said Hollis didn't witness anything illegal.

This should not have happened with or without a group of kids being there.  The swingers can have their
convention but that doesn't give them the right to break the law, and the actions you are describing are just
that.  The parents should not have depended on the hotel, or the off-duty cop.  If that had happened to a group I was with I would have called in the State Police, since the cop in question was loathe to do anything.  There isn't anything worse for city police than to have the State Police called in to take care of what they won't.

I dunno, would the hotel have booked the event and allowed it to go on like that if it wasn't legal?

Going around nude in public is definitely illegal but is it in a privately-owned building? I don't know.

Note: I'm sure these parents are upset, however, I find this humorous more than anything.

I agree with you. The swingers party isn't a crime. I saw the whole thing as just silly! I'm a teenager but, if I saw a swinger party going on, I wouldn't care! Come on parents, your kids are gonna see nudity one way or the other way!

Who cares? So a bunch of parents didn't want their kids to see a group of naked people? Garanteed they will see one sooner or later. This isn't news.

Swinger parties are only depraved, disgusting, and immoral...
if they don't invite me!
:P

All I know is if I was in seventh grade and one of those swinger ladies flashed her breasts at me, I'd follow her anywhere like a little puppy dog!  So it was a different kind of educational weekend than the parents intended.  By seventh grade, kids know what's what.  I think it's the parents who were mortified.  Now Junior might go down the wrong road!
:-should be and what is are at odds more often than not!

Although I can understand some minor annoyance or discomfort with the situation, I hardly think it's a huge deal. People seem to find the human body incredibly offensive, and yet they're perfectly willing to watch (and let their young children watch) violent movies or play violent video games. I'm not saying that they shouldn't be allowed to watch the violent content. In fact, I think that the majority of parents do a fair job of explaining that violence is wrong in preparation for allowing them to watch it. I only wish they'd take a similar approach to explaining whatever they want to explain about the body, sexuality, etc. instead of just attempting to shield its existence.
But of course it's absolutely shameful and immoral to put prepubescent boys into a situation where their private parts can get (as the Church Lady used to say) "engorged and tingly."  Now if two rival gangs had a shootout in the parking lot and several gangbangers got killed, and all the kids saw the whole thing (without any harm coming to them), do you think that would've been in the newspapers?

I agree w/ you about people finding sex offensive and yet they will watch violence. It's the same as radio banning a song with sexual content and yet a song that glorifies violence gets past the censors. Same goes for movies when they get banned!

Americans are waaaay too hung up on sex and nudity.  It's interestng how in European cultures, such as Scandinavian countries, where nudity among both adults and children isn't a big deal, and nobody makes a big fuss about pornography, they have far fewer incidences per capita of sexual predation.
The problem is America couldn't just start running things like Denmark and expect the same results.  Their attitude toward sexuality is just one part of a different cultural outlook from what we find in the U.S.

Even though I am from Canada, I'd rather live somewhere in Europe because of how nudity isn't a big deal!

I have always thought and still think nudity is not a big deal!

I guess some people don't think that nudity is better than violence. Violence is more effective on kids than nudity!

If you make nudity shameful, all nudity becomes sexualized.
I'm terribly modest myself...unless I get totally bombed!

What do you mean by getting totally bombed?

Are you referring to drinking?
