Subject: I could've been a rich man if I bet on Leif Garrett!!!!!

Written By: guest on 01/18/06 at 6:07 pm

Wow..if only I would've bet with my gut instinct after seeing Leif Garrett in a heart wrenching(lying) interview from his hospital treatment roon on Entertainment Tonight a year or two ago.

He was hooked on his DRUGS and sought radical treatment locking down in a special facility to end his addiction....oh what a show he put on!

Well..today, just read he was busted for carrying an illegal substance(heroine?) and trying to board the LA subway without a pass....

All my posters of him are now trashed....thought he would be the white hope to help others with kicking the habit but he turned into another con.....

Enjoy your future JUNKY!!!

Aw, leif him alone!  He's former child-star.  I think the government should give former child-stars a special dispensation to consume any substances they want.

Anyway, whatever happened to Rachel Sweet?  I always liked her.

Who was Rachel Sweet?

Leif broke the cardinal rule of crime.  If you are carrying drugs, don't break a little law like speeding, or trying to ride train without paying.  You will get caught.

Who was Rachel Sweet?

She had a few modest hits in the late 70's, the biggest of which was the 1981 duet 'Everlasting Love' with Rex Smith :)

Never heard of it.  Maybe if I heard it, I would recognize it.  Thanks. :)

I know a certain fellow who drove in 1989 from the middle of Michigan to the suburbs of Boston hauling about fifteen pounds of marijuana.  Scruffy kid driving a beat up old Volvo station wagon...he said he never once exceeded the speed limit.  Chr*st, I wouldn't take that kind of chance.  But he didn't get caught!

I vaguely recall Rachel Sweet and Leif Garrett apeared on television at least once together.  Thing is, Garrett was kind of joke, like Shaun Cassidy.  I thought Sweet had bona-fide talent, but she got typecast early as a teen star.
Here is the IMdb lowdown on Rachel Sweet:
http://imdb.com/name/nm0842295/
She came out with her first LP in 1978 at the age of sixteen.  Her management gave her a risque lolita sex appeal.  I mean, nothing like the quasi-pornographic Britney Speares/Li'l Kim swill of the '90s, but rather sexualized for the time.

Sweet had a few "country" singles between the ages of 12 and 14, but it was her switch to rock-pop with the hip British label Stiff Records that made the difference.  They released her debut album "Fool Around," which yielded her first hit "B-A-B-Y."
My favorite song by Sweet was her cover of Pat Benatar's "Shadows of the Night," which appeared on her 1981 album "...And Then He Kissed Me," which also included the aforementioned hit duet with Rex Smith, "Everlansting Love"

Sweet is one of those teen stars who never got HUGE enough to be tarred with the stigma of the precipitous "downfall," nor did she ever really disappear.  She continued to work as an actor and singer, and still has a loyal following of fans.
Sweet always seemed to have something more substantial going than your average producer-fabricated teen sensation.

Here is a passable Rachel Sweet tribute page.  There is one with better content, but it is hosted by Tripod, and I WILL NOT ask anybody to click on a link to a Tripod page!

Leif Garrett then:

Leif Garrett now:

OK,OK, not really, that's Meatloaf.  I couldn't find the LG picture I was looking for from the early '90s when he was all bloated out on drugs at some event in the middle of the day (like the Iowa State Fair, or something) and trying to sing "Runaround Sue" with a lousy back-up band.  He really DID look kind of like Meatloaf at that point.  So he DID pull himself together somewhat before we all saw his guest spots on VH1 early in this decade!

I still remember "Runaround Sue" (his big hit, a disco version of the Dion and the Belmonts classic) blasting out of my sister's room.  That was when she also had a HUGE poster of Shaun Cassidy in his football togs!

(not football togs, but in Disco Fever fatigues, who can complain?)

she's still recovering from the abuse she gets from friends for remaking Everlasting Love with REx Smith...
and though I love him, the video is just awful.

Now. Leif, Leif, Leif.  You poor thing.
they really do need a treatment house for these poor child stars, to help them make the transition to obscurity.
Didn't he have something to do with shooting his friend , or were they in a car accident and there was a big tv show about it?

That's not the  cardinal rule of crime, that's the cardinal rule of pot smokers, Don't Do Anything Illegal While Carrying Your Pot.  Stay Quiet In The Presence Of The Authorities And You Won't Lose Your Stash!

not quite.  D.L. Byron wrote that song, Rachel performed it first, then Pat got ahold of it.

Maybe Leif took over the race  between Brad Renfro and Edward Furlong(from previous post topic)... Ed can't keep up ..

Saw in this weeks Enquirer how Jody Sweting(Full House) used her money for drugs as her career slowed ..and her husband,(a cop), left her.

Maybe a good 9-5 job HELPS allof us from drugs and break ups..! ???

he was involved in a (i believe) DWI accident which left his best friend paralyzed.  if memory serves me correctly, they were reunited on a VH1 show.
