Bleh.  2006 is off to a bad start.

It will get better.  I hope.  I think 2007 will be revolutionary.

Look at the top 10 from the same time last year:

Let Me Love You- Mario
1,2 Step- Ciara
Lovers and Friends- Lil' Jon
Soldier- Destiny's Child
Drop It Like It's Hot- Snoop Dogg
How We Do- The Game & 50 Cent
Disco Inferno- 50 Cent
Boulevard of Broken Dreams- Green Day
Bring Em Out- T.I.
Over and Over- Nelly & Tim McGraw

Overall, I'd say the current top 10 beats last years.

Yeah, it's a little better.  Again, beginning in 2007 I think things will really change - for the better.  1987 and 1997 both began a different "type" of their decade.

Yea, hopefully. I think it's time for some real change.

I don't think people will buy into this rap stuff forever.  Than again, after over 14 years people still like Grunge, so you never know.
50 Cent is already showing signs of becoming more formulaic, although I think his album will be less so.

I'm sick of 50 cent, though I'd rather listen to him than Juelz Santana, David Banner, or Nelly. Nelly used to be ok at best, now he's taken a dive for the worst with "Grillz".

The "Country Grammar" album is actually decent, although not great.  Then they teamed up with NSYNC, and it was down to the center of the earth from there on.

Yea, I liked "Country Grammar" and "Ride Wit Me". He was kind of different back then and those songs weren't so dumb like "Grillz".

He hadn't become a gimmick with the whole "errr" thing.  It's like, what are you handicapped?
Grillz is even dumber than Laffy Taffy, if that's even possible.

I can't believe he made a song about those stupid things. Out of all the things to write about, he chose "Grillz".

The worst part is the girl in the song, and then that guy who goes "Let me see your WHAT?"  It makes 50 Cent look like John Lennon.
Who knows, maybe "Laffy Taffy" and "Grillz" are to mainstream rap what "Cherry Pie" and Nelson were to hair metal, the point at which they couldn't get any dumber.  I think MTV rap is to the '00s what hair metal was to the '80s.

February 4, 2006? Isn't that next week? You already know the songs that'll be on top of the charts next week?

That's the way Billboard charts are dated. All of the current charts are for the week of February 4, 2006. Chart weeks and calendar weeks are not synchronized.

Aah.

Gee, I guess ya learn something new every day. ::)

It's weird how different the Billboard Charts are to the charts here in Canada.  Here's what's right now in the Canadian top 10 ...

3. Hung Up - Madonna
4. Because of You - Kelly Clarkson
5. Angels Losing Sleep - Our Lady Peace
6. Just Feel Better - Santana featuring Steven Tyler
7. Ever the Same - Rob Thomas
8. Unwritten - Natasha Bedingfield
9. You and Me - Lifehouse
10. Who Says You Can't Go Home - Bon Jovi featuring Jennifer Nettles

1. When the Sun Goes Down - Arctic Monkeys
2. Nasty Girl - Notorious B.I.G. / Diddy / Nelly (How can BIG still have hits ?? ??)
3. All Time Love - Will Young
4. Check on It - Beyonce featuring Slim Thug
5. That's My Goal - Shane Ward
6. JCB Song - Nizlopi
7. I'll Be Ready - Sunblock (This is a cool dance version of the Baywatch Theme)
8. Say Say Say (Waiting For You) - Hi Tack (Samples the 1983 Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson song)
9. Break the Night With Colour - Richard Ashcroft
10. Eddie's Song - Son of Dork

Give it time... as you can see all of those songs are 2005 songs.

Singles Charts suck, here's the local (NZ) album chart: (seeing as everyone's posting charts...) I reckon album charts are more accurate as more people buy Albums as opposed to Singles.

position album name - artist platinum record co.
1 Based On A True Story Fat Freddy's Drop x5 TheDrop/Rhythmethod (NZ)
2      Back To Bedlam - James Blunt x5 WEA/Warner
3 Curtain Call: The Hits Eminem x4 Universal
4 All The Right Reasons Nickelback Roadrunner/Universal
5 The Very Best Of UB40 x4 Virgin/EMI
6 Heartbeat: Greatest Hits Chris Rea WEA/Warner
7 Monkey Business Black Eyed Peas x4 Universal
8 Birds Bic Runga x2 SBME (NZ)
9 Sex And Agriculture: The Very Best Of The Exponents Universal (NZ)
10 Love, Angel, Music, Baby: Special Edition Gwen Stefani x2 Universal

What the hey, heres the single chart for comparison:

1 Push The Button Sugababes
2 Stickwitu The Pussycat Dolls Universal
3 When I'm Gone Eminem Universal
4 Down Time Aaradhna DawnRaid/Universal (NZ)
5 Run It Chris Brown SBME
6 Hung Up Madonna WEA/Warner
7 Gold Digger Kanye West feat. Jamie Foxx Universal
8 Wandering Eye Fat Freddy's Drop TheDrop/Rhythmethod (NZ)
9 My Humps Black Eyed Peas Universal
10 Window Shopper 50 Cent Universal

I think all the songs are pretty good except for Grillz. I even like Check On It now, at first I didn't really like it but now I think it's alright. Breaking Free is one of the high school musical songs, I don't really know it. I know all the others though.

Other than James Blunt and Natasha Bedingfield, I have no idea what the other 8 sound like.  I am soo out of it when it comes to current chart hits  :-[

Not a big fan of "Grillz" or "Run It!" ... don't know "Unpredictable" or "Breaking Free" ... the rest I find acceptable in varying degrees. Don't know if y'all saw, but that "High School Musical" that got my interest last week has nine songs in the Hot 100 this week...

That "High School Musical" has quite a cult following, eh?

"Johnny Tsunami" and believe it or not "Zenon" also seem to have cult followings.

Big time, they are probably setting sales records on iTunes. It's quite amazing how well the soundtrack is selling.

It will probably be the most popular Original Movie Disney Channel's ever done.  It felt kind of "beyond my time", though, if you know what I mean.  My Disney age was more like 2000-2003.

I haven't watched disney regularily since I was just a little kid. Some of the programming on there is ok, I just don't watch it much. I may end up watching this thing because of the hype it's getting.

I promised to watch it with my 11-year-old sister.  I was okay, really cheesy but I could see it becoming a classic 20 years from now.  Kind of like a Zeroes version of "Footloose".
