This is simply Darwin, and evolution in action.  It is sad, but nature is not very forgiving.

Some animals adapt, and some do not.  This is how it has ben throughout the history of the planet.  New species evolve, and old ones die off.  I am sure that very few humans mourn for the loss of Neandertol Man.

And I am sure that whatever breed of Hominid that replaces us in 100-200,000 years will not mourn for the loss of Homo Sapiens.

On another note however, it seems that the Bald Eagle has been taken off of the list.  In 1963, there were only 417 breeding pairs.  Now there are 7,066 breeding pairs in the lower 48, and an estimated 2.500 in Alaska.
