Subject: Post-Punk revival dead?

Written By: Donnie Darko on 02/28/06 at 3:47 pm

Around the Kerry/Bush election there was a huge post-punk revival.  Franz Ferdinand, the Killers, then a bit later Bloc Party and The Bravery.  What happened to these guys, is the fad dead?  I WANT MY NEW WAVE!

I wouln't call it dead. The Bravery's hit song came out just a few months ago didnt it? And Franz Ferdinand recently came out with a new record I think. Things are all over the place these days so its hard to tell how long any fad will last but I dont think this one is dead just yet.

In the '00s, there's hip hop, then there's a thousand other things.

I don't think it's dead yet, but more emo-styled indie rock seems to be a bit more in these days, though the post-punk revival is still actually going pretty strong.

Nope.

I reckon it will die out around 2007-2008...  ::)

Yup.  Then, another 10-15 years of Grunge, "alternative", and indie.  >:(

I think it will be influential, but will probably end in the late '00s along with the whole collapse of hipsterism. It will be one of the best remembered aspects of the decade, though-"white crunk."

I kinda like the post-punk revival, so I hope it hangs around a while longer. I saw The Bravery in concert last summer--good stuff! Go see 'em if you get the chance. Shades of Echo and The Bunnymen, New Order and the like...
