Hot Lesbians ... this alone was the reason why I bought their first CD ;D

I liked that song 'All the Things She Said', but it was the only song I liked, and after much play, I got sick of it, so I pawned the CD ;D

i poked around on ebay and got one of their old russian-language albums. that might have an additional coolness angle, but i doubt it.

If you're into them because you think they're lesbians.........you've been duped.  Apparently their manager/record label put them up to it because it would sell.  I remember that story being in Rolling Stone a while back.

I love "All The Things She Said", though.  Very catchy tune.

Yeah, I read it was all a gimmick the lesbianism.. I'm not big on lesbian-type things.. but damn. They was sexy.

That song was good.. otherwise I didn't care for their music.

I never actually heard the song, but I remember, when "All the Things She Said" first came out, at first I thought people were randomly talking about Simple Minds like a new band. I'm just easy to confuse like that.

it would be so much less interesting if they actually DID turn out to be lesbians. that part where you go, "omigod, it's all part of a publicity stunt!"? it's part of the publicity stunt.

i think folks were talking about the "paul is dead" thing so many years ago? same bit.

Probably did more harm than good to the actual gay community...sort of commercialised lesbianism like 'Blackness' was commercialised in the Blaxploitation era (though the pros/cons of THAT are another story).

It doesn't matter what is more 'interesting'.  Lesbians doesn't exist to entertain people.  It's pretty pathitic that people think it's so 'interesting' when a woman is attracted to a woman.  I guess it would be more 'interesting' if it was a black woman and a white woman too.  "Ooh look, a mix couple!  How interesting!  We never see that kinda stuff here in Backwater County"

Actually, we got to gether yesterday to practice the big show we're planning for you..
there's a full band playing german-march versions of songs by Slayer; a few dirty skits based on "The Honeymooners", two girls that can twirl flaming batons, magic, and exerpt from swan lake performed topless and a large choir that composed a madrigal singing your praises....
looks like this right now, but with rehearsals we'll clean up the edges...

Getting a bit off topic here...
here's a nonentertaining photograph to get us back on topic.

http://www.despardes.com/Entertainment/chanachoor/sep04/tatu-big-0109.jpg

the caption to this photo is "raunchy russian duo relaunch themselves as maneaters." which i think is funny because a. it presumes they're making the publicity decisions, which i doubt, and b. there's no talk of what they actually ARE -- maneaters? lesbians? students trying to make a little extra money? which i think is interesting because it's all deliberately constructed image, and everybody knows it. but people play along.

i start off thinking this is real interesting but then i lose my train of thought for some reason.

well, you can actually get a lot lower than that but i agree, it's pretty low.

they actually mentioned the name somewhere who came up with the idea of selling tatu as lesbians, i forget who it was. but it wasn't them, they're surrounded by a coterie of PR people who decide everything right down to the tartan used for their catholic schoolgirl skirts. i wonder how much of their own music they write...

i just got a documentary about them from netflix today so i'll give you my professional opinion when i'm done.

i never watch t.v. or listen to commercial radio so i've actually never heard a tatu song. so i'm not pro or con at the moment. i also don't mind the whole lesbian-publicity-stunt thing. it's sorta sophomoric but hey, whatever works. it's not as bad as spraying fake blood all over the audience.

okay! i'm listening to some tatu right now! it's! it's...!

really not that exciting. it's okay, it's like that stuff they play in the gym when i go to england.

on the other hand, what's her neck, the butch one, is a pretty mean classical piano player. that surprised me. also, the DVD is all extras, no feature, which is, you know, very 2006. AND my t.v. screen cuts off the edges for everything so instead of saying "screaming for more", the name of the DVD, it says "creaming for more." which is worth a chuckle.

but all in all i have to wonder, who's the dork who decided to start a whole thread about these characters?

well, they are indeed EEAAASSSSYYY on the eyes. i guess that's why i was hoping they'd be musical geniuses.

i was at an open mic tonight and there was this amazing singer there, five octave range, belting out the janis, she was unbelievable. course, she was wider than she was tall.

Nice. You even have to make belittle some unknown talented singer just because she isn't 'beautiful' in your eyes?  So this singer is large, so what?  Why even mention it?  "Great singer... but of course she's fat.  Oh well."  Yeah, too bad about that.  Not.  The sad thing is not that she's large.  The sad thing is that people see her and say "Great voice! well, not that i'm necessarily denying this but i never even brought up the supposed lesbian thing until like eight other people mentioned it out of the blue. i was all, "hey, i decided to buy a tatu album," and then everybody goes, "you know they're not lesbians, right?" i'd actually missed that whole brouha. i rather think if you review the thread you'll see the whole lesbian thing seems to be mostly a hangup on the part of people who insist it shouldn't be a hangup, and in the process mention it in every other sentence. i personally dont give a ratsass if they're lesbians or not.

vis-a-vis the whole singer-with-girth thing, i went up first, a dude in my 30s, played complicated stuff i've been banging my head against for weeks, and then this guy went up afterward who was probably like half my age, looked all boy-band with the long hair, played three chord songs and got a much better reaction. i don't really mind but i reaffirmed what i already knew -- it helps to be young, thin and pretty if you're a singer. anyone who thinks different is living in a dreamland. if you're casting aspersions on me, flip through your album collection and see how many homely people there are in it. we all pitch in to make the world we live in, you know.

It's fine to be attracted to who you are attracted to.  It's just that it makes it hard for some lesbians in general (not Tatu cuz they make a point of it deliberately) if people are fascinated with them just because of their lesbianism.  Just like if you're Jewish, you might not want someone to meet you and be all fascinated like "wow, I never met a Jewish person before".  It can be, like, rude, because there's more to a person than that, and it gets tireing being held up like a respresentation of a group of people other people don't know much about.  And it's tiring being a thing for people to be fascinated by just because they're not used to it, you know?  That's all I mean.  Sorry if it was harsh.

I've met a few in real life. They're not "all that and a bag of chips". Most of the time you would never be able to tell, unless one introduced you to her girlfriend or told you. Getting with lesbians doesn't interest me... or them for that matter. Now a couple of hot bisexual chicks, that , I think is every guy's fantasy.

Yeah, true 'lipstick' lesbians are rare as hens teeth, they say. Bisexual girls tend just to be more experimentive/promiscuous then usual, and like bi-sexuality in males, is not necessarily a pre-disposition to homosexuality.
