The tour manager for the rock band Great White has been sentenced to four years in prison for the pyrotechnics malfunction that turned into a conflagration, which killed 100 people at The Station nightclub in Warwick, RI, March 20, 2003.

Daniel Biechele, age 29,  could have faced ten years behind bars for 100 counts of involuntary manslughter, but the judge went easy on him because Biechele really didn't mean to hurt anybody. Biechele wrote an individual letter of apology to each family of the 100 victims of the blaze. This gesture probably helped his case too.

I don't know how he and the band can live with themselves. If I caused the death of 100 people, even if it was 100% an accident, I would live with constant suicide ideation.

That whole thing was horrific.  I don't know what idiot over the age of five would even consider an indoor pyrotechnic display, especially in a club the size of a kitchen.

Should the guy have to do more time? I dunno. Four years, ten years, one hundred years, no amount of time will bring any of those people back. It was an accident. No malice, just stupidity. Now those dopes have to live with a hundred horrible deaths on their consciences for the rest of their lives. Like I say, if I did something that moronic, and caused so much carnage, I'd never get another decent night's sleep in my life. I might end up rocking back and forth on massive doses of tranquilizers day in and day out!

that's how i felt, but maybe i'm just a softie. they're dead, his crime wasn't really that serious, it just had horrible consequences. and he gave his statement, he was obviously in pieces.

having said that, though, yeah, i'd probably want to kill myself if i were him. sometimes i catch myself not paying attention driving and then think, what would i do if i got absent-minded and ran over someone and killed em? and i'd probably just want to kill myself on the spot.
