I actually think Janet Jackson's album will do quite well and Britney Spears' will do quite badly.

It might, her last album in 2004 didn't do so hot, but that was probably related to the whole super bowl wardrobe malfunction thing. Britney's last album did fairly well, Toxic was a big hit on the radio as well in 2004. Britney probably has ruined herself now, and has become more of a joke in the tabloids because of her marriage to that federline guy. So yeah her album actually might fail.

Just cos an artist is past their revival doesn't mean they can't stage a huge comeback and become popular again, I think it depends on what the times' need... Not too familiar with the music of many of these artists (and I doubt I'll buy any of these albums), but I couldn't really judge until I know what sort of album each artist is making. The artist, of course, is
is not always enough to sell records (but in the super mainstream music industry it may be the case).

And nowadays you don't have to sell that many albums to be popular really, though really the goal is selling albums for record companies not radio airplay. Rihanna's first album didn't even go platnum and she was huge last year.

Thom Yorke- Will be disappointing
The Shins- Will suck, yet be worshipped
The Killers- Will be over-rated, yet impressive
Kanye West- Will be disappointing in comparison
Simple Plan- Will be an album
My Chemical Romance- Will also be an album
Jessica Simpson- Will not do well
Smash Mouth- Will not do well
Hilary Duff- Will not do well
Backstreet Boys- Will do mediocre
Celine Dion- Will not do well
Britney Spears- Will have very slight success
Green Day- Will be worshipped despite unbearableness
Senses Fail- Will be an album
Gin Blossoms- Wait.. isn't their lead singer dead?

Yeah, itunes/internet downloading is becoming such an interest part of marketing music these days.

Yeah, I think Thom Yorke's album will be pretty disappointing. Isn't the Radiohead album due in 2007? I also think it'll be somewhat disappointing. I think OutKast's album will be big but also won't do as well as expected, since it's driving away some of their original fanbase. The same with Kanye West. Beyonce's will be a pretty big hit and Christina's will do all right. Britney's, Jessica's, Hilary's, Celine's, Backstreet Boys, etc. won't do that well. All the emo releases will probably do well...I think emo might peak in 06-07, actually.

Yeah....I think OutKast's new album is too far from their big hits around the 03-04 season to do that well. It's more their original style with 1930s influences. I think the Killers CD will either be huge or disappointing, somehow.

Thom Yorke and Radiohead kinda set the bar too high with OK Computer... every release they ever do, solo, group, or otherwise will always be compared to it. Want to or not, you know you'll always think "Well, this is no OK Computer, but it's okay, I guess...".. that's the downfall of making such a great album.

I think EMO is actually on it's way out. If you notice, EMO fans rarely stick with a band beyond 1-2 albums.

Yeah. Alot of artists have fallen into that trap. Liz Phair, Tori Amos, Pavement, Suzanne Vega, The Pixies, and Nirvana all produced great albums early on in their careers that their later releases would always be compared to. Like Tori Amos' albums after Little Earthquakes are always said to be "Good, but no Little Earthquakes."
