What would you say about the materialism present in teen culture by decade?

It's worse than ever now. Yeah, but that's what every generation says about the next. Actually, we were jealous of our '60s parents in the '80s. As one comedian put it, "You had sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll, we had AIDS, crack, and Madonna!"

I think we're jealous of the '80s teens who are now thirtysomethings, because we're sort of living a downgraded version of '80s existence in this new eighties of excess, excessive real estate development, preppieness, and being all primped-up. Like since all the emos aspire to be in a John Hughes movie and all the preps wish they were neo-yuppies back c. 1985 and got into IZOD the first time.

The '90s were like the '70s done better.
