Better-Guns N Roses

It leaked on the internet a few months ago, and will likely be the first single on Chinese Democracy.

Not much good music this year so far. I heard a couple songs from RHCP that was pretty good.

On an Island - David Gilmour
Probably his weakest record so far, but it's still Gilmour

The View From The Afternoon - Arctic Monkeys
Forget the hype, they are actually a decent band

Mind's Eye - Wolfmother
Good Australian band

You're All I Have & Chasing Cars - Snow Patrol
Impressive 4th album by them

...and there are tons of others.

The majority of Stadium Arcadium is fantastic. Dani's actually one of the less stand-out songs if you listen to the whole album.

Apart from Jack Johnson, the only record that has caught my ear is Sandi Thom's I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker (With Flowers In My Hair). It was originally available for air play on the radio September last year, but it has now made to the charts achieving the number one slot.

Hard-Fi - Better do better
Zutons - Why wont you give me your love
Editors - All sparks and Munich
Gnarls Berkley - Crazy

Another great one is "When the Night Feels My Song" by Bedouin Soundclash.  It's been in the charts since late 2005 and shows no signs of stopping

It'll be interesting to see if I still like these 5 years from now, but for today it looks like

Bad Day -- Daniel Powter
You're Beautiful -- James Blunt
Crazy -- Gnarls Barkley
Unwritten -- Natasha Bedingfield
Over My Head (Cable Car) -- The Fray
Looking For You -- Kirk Franklin
Dare -- Gorillaz
God's Gift to the World -- ?? (I'm not sure who sings this one just yet, but the original by Phil Perry dates back to 1980)

Some of them were released in late 2005, but were still getting air-play in 2006.

Natasha Bedingfield "Single"  8)

Subject: Re: Favourite songs of 2006 so far?

Written By: nally on 06/24/06 at 10:50 pm

Okay, here are the ones I like best from the 2005-06 "cusp":

"Unwritten" by Natasha Bedingfield (which I tend to associate more with 2005, since it began to get airplay in November/December)
"Black Horse And A Cherry Tree" by KT Tunstall (more '06 in the States)

And from '06:

"SOS" by Rihanna
"Single" by Natasha Bedingfield

I might have more as the year progresses.

Still waiting for Ashley Tisdale's version of "Kiss The Girl"...

I know "High School Musical" was horrible, but she might be OK as a solo artist.

After all, she's a good actress beyond her years and did started in musical theatre ("Annie", "Les Miz")  :)

In the Uk, "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree" was released in March last year (2005)and spending three weeks in the charts, so when it came to 2006, we were well accustomed to it.

And it didn't become a hit in the U.S. until early 2006. That's why it's in the "cusp", as I mentioned in my previous post.  Seems like a lot of songs are a "hand me down" in the U.S.; we don't get 'em till after they've been released in the UK. :-\\

Take That have reformed and are performing to sell out concerts, but reformed without Robbie Williams for he already has a day job.

Also, Gary Barlow and Mark Owen both had short-termed solo pop career.

I really don't see the fuss with Corinne Bailey Rae - what's so special about her? Her songs are just mellow and boring imo! I feel the same about her as I do with Coldplay.

Well there are lots of songs called "Crazy" that have been done over the years. I can name at least four:

1. Patsy Cline (early 60's)
2. Icehouse (late 80's)
3. Seal (early 90's)
  - covered by Alanis last year (gawd I hate that cover) http://www.inthe00s.com/smile/14/puke.gif
4. Aerosmith (mid-90's)

and now...
5. Gnarls Barkley (mid-00's)...I did not know this one was a cover of a previous song. Where does it fit in?

Well, in terms of Top 40, I think that my favourite song of '06 is probably Rihanna's "SOS" - it's not usually my sort of thing, but it's bloody catchy. :)

I also like Shakira's "Hips Don't Lie," Madonna's "Sorry," Franz Ferdinand's "The Fallen," that dancey new Mobile song (though I forgot what it's called), and James Blunt's "You're Beautiful" and "Wise Men" (since he has the first truly distinctive voice I've heard on Top 40 in a long time).

Same here. Usually I don't like songs that take a sample from older songs (esp. those of the 80's), but I find myself wanting to listen to that one each time it comes on.
