Subject: Is 2006 a big change from 2005, or the same?

Written By: batfan2005 on 06/25/06 at 10:40 am

Do you think 2006 was a big change from 2005, or is it just a continuation of 2005? I would say both. Emo and A/C music really became big this year, but the rap and r&b is still the same as 2005. In some ways, 2006 is like a return to 2002 or 2003 with reality TV becoming big again, and artists like Sean Paul, Shakira, Pink, and Christina Aguilera coming back with new albums. I think 2005 was a preview of what 2007 and 2008 will be like with dance/house/electronica music.

IMO and my life, 2006 is the nightmaric version of 2005. Pop culturaly, it still feels like 2004 to me.

If only it was still 2004. 2006 has been such a depressing year so far, and it only seems to be getting worse now that we're going into the 2nd half.

It's a change. There's not as much enthusiasm over stuff like digital cable, cameraphones, iPods, and MySpace, there's the rise of boho fashion and emo, and the decline of glam rap over dance-pop and adult contemporary. And the constant threat of recession and the end of the real estate boom...though we have to wait for the end of the year to see that.

Definitely a change from 2005.

When did reality become big again? I think it's dying even more, outside of the big American Idol of course. There's a number of reality shows still out there, however the ratings are significantly less than in the past.

Yeah, if anything reality TV has continued its precipitous decline. The O.C. getting big around late 2003 was the beginning of the end.

A lot has changed in music since late 2005/early 06, for the better I might add. This winter was the WORST time for music in this decade.

Fall of '05 was bad too.

Late 2001 through all of 2002 and 2003 was a depressing period, but for some reason(despite Bush being re-elected in November of '04) 2004 and the first two thirds or so of 2005 had a pretty good vibe(despite the crappy 00s trends).  But I agree, the last year nearly has gone back to a depressing feeling like we had in the early-to-mid 00s.
