Subject: Was 2005 more like 1989 or 1990?

Written By: batfan2005 on 08/12/06 at 11:31 am

2005 reminded me more of 1989, especially with the box office. Both of those years were great summers for movies, especially since I'm a "batfan". Batman Begins and Batman '89 were the best Batman movies. The style music was different, but had similarities (Old school 80's rap and 00's hip-hop). Also the mix of debut artists and comebacks of old ones. The styles of TV shows were also similar, both years marked the beginning of a new generation of video game systems, and they marked the start of new fashion trends. Those years were also alike for the U.S. as a whole in that they were the last good years economically and socially before things went bad their succeeding years. One last item to mention is that a major natural disaster occured in the U.S. in 1989 (the S.F. quake) and in 2005 (Hurricane Katrina).

I've also heard 2005 being compared to 1990, but I think 2006 is more like 1990.

Neither.

For me 2005 was totally different than 1989 or even 1990, the music then was bettter. Television and comedy were better. People were better dressed. And we all had more money in our pockets.

This question is like asking are elephants more like bees or ants. I don't understand how a year would be more like a year 17 years earlier compared to one 16 years earlier..Honetsly 2005 reminded me of 2005.

2005 was more like 2005 than 1990 or 1989.

Donnie Darko used to make threads like this.  He did them one time too many and got banned.  I thought you were making fun of him by making this thread.

No I wasn't making fun of him. Btw, I was wondering what happened to him. I just noticed on one of the older threads that he was a guest. I don't know how or why he got banned. I haven't been on here much lately, so there's a lot I missed.

He got banned for too much "decadeology" which is exactly what this thread is.

Wow, I didn't know you can get banned for that. Now I can understand if someone was harrasing another member or posting threads with vulgarity to get banned, but not for comparing recent years to past years.

But he did it constantly, sometimes 6 or 7 threads a day.  He would repeat threads, and wouldn't stop after he was warned several times

You'd have to have been here every day to understand why Chucky banned him.  It was non-stop, it was incessant and he kept doing it even after he was told to quit.

It got way out of hand and too repetitive and that's why Chucky just had to ban him.

That is just utterly ridiculous

Someone got banned here for being "too nostalgic"? Plus, I have a hard time believing that he just ignored the warnings that he would be banned if he continued.  I've seen Donnie Darko post here for probably the past year and I don't see him as someone who would put his account in jeopardy and ignore simple warnings.

It was not the nostalgia, it the repetitiveness of the posting and new threads that caused it.

You may not have thought he was, but he was.  Otherwise Chucky wouldn't have had to send him packing.  When you spam the boards with thread after thread after thread after thread of the same tired thing over and over and over again after you've been warned to slow down/quit and you don't.....and you openly admit to spamming the boards as a means of annoying people, the mods won't take that lightly.

He was warned plenty of times and he chose to ignore those warnings.  It had nothing to do with being "too nostalgic".

Nostalgia is not what it used to be!

I've locked this topic.

Topics like this have been banned, mostly because of one former member who used to start twenty of them everyday, but also because they aren't really all that interesting either.
