Subject: Who else likes beer / what flavor / which country do you reside in?

Written By: fishryc on 08/20/06 at 3:11 pm

I LOVE BEER!! I like alcohol, but love beer!! What's your favorite?? I'm in Western New York State (near Niagara Falls) and have always loved the green bottled "skunky" tasting brews such as Becks, Lowenbrau, Heinekin, Grolsch, Saint Paulies Girl, Molsons products, and from the good old USA, that cheap Pennsylvania brew, "Rolling Rock".
Lately too, and available locally, there has been a newer USA made Anhauser Busch product on our local shelves: "Hurricane High Gravity Lager". This is a demonic brew with a high alcohol content (8.1%). Plus, it does does not taste nearly half as bad as the usual high alcohol malt liquor beers such as Colt 45, St. Ides, Magnum, etc, etc, etc.
Good choice for the evenings that the wife goes to the casino, picks your wallet, and leaves you broke!!
I also enjoy the stouts. However at a meager 65K annual income between my wife and I while owning a home in NY State complete with our extreme taxes, I cannot enjoy Guiness, Becks Dark, or Heinekin Dark nearly as frequently as desired.
Anyway, what else is being sipped out there???.....................................

Domestic (i.e. sitting around the house) - Coors Light

   Imported - Dos Equis

Should I Find Myself In The UK - Newcastle Brown Ale, Guinness (I'm still working on it...)

Microbrew - Sam Adams Winter Lager, Pyramid India Pale Ale

  I'm in Northern California...

   groove ;) on...

Guinness, but I can't afford it. I also like something called Tequiza, which is a mixture of tequila and cerveza with a hint of lime. My husband says it tastes like asswater. I want to know how he knows what asswater tastes like. :D

And I live in Indiana, but I'm actually a California native.

Operative words:  "Anheuser-Busch product".  IS. NOT. BEER.

Try an India Pale Ale.  Try a double IPA.  If your local microbrewery does one, try a triple IPA.  Try an Imperial Russian Stout. Try a Belgian Ale.

...and many others from breweries too numerous to mention.  Is. Beer.

What you guys call beer, we in England call lager. I don't really like lager I prefer what we call beer or bitter or 'ale' as my American friend calls it !

I like beer / I like beer-flavoured beer / I reside in New Zealand

Seriously:
I generally drink what I can afford, which isn't all that nice. When I can afford it, I'd buy Heineken or something local like Monteiths or Mac's.

Mmmmmmmmmmm... beer.

What do I prefer?

Well, that's all a matter of what my financial situation looks like.

If I'm poor and impoverished and forced to drink cheap domestic beer than I will generally lean toward Miller or Rolling Rock.

If I have at least some money in my wallet then I'll move on to Stella Artois, Heineken, Guiness, IPA, Banks & Kronenburg.

If I'm rather flushed then I'll be found drinking Leffe, Hoegarden and Wurzburger.

When I was in Britain, I always ordered lager because it was served cold.  I couldn't stomach bitters at room temperature!  Maybe I could today.  I have a more hale constitution than I did 15 years ago!

Live just outside of Toledo, Ohio, USA.

Domestic beer of choice is Pabst Blue Ribbon (laugh if you must) or Budweiser when in bars that don't have PBR.

"Import" (in quotes because it and its rival Labatt's are more common around here, an hour from Canada, than many major American beers) of choice is Molson Canadian.

But really, beer falls in the same category as pizza or sex.....even bad is still a hell of a lot better than none at all.

Beer looks like piss.

You should be drinking more water then.

The last time I checked, my favorite was not available in the US: Molson XXX, which is very high in alcohol content, and darned good too. Other faves include Molson Ice, Icehouse, Anchor Steam, Michelob Light and Guiness. I liked Killian's when it first came out and was reasonably cheap. Then it became trendy, nearly double in price, and I never drank it again. Ditto Corona.

I saw a few mentions for Rolling Rock; that stuff comes in the green bottle to hide the algae growing in it. Seriously awful beer; matter of fact, it's the only beer I've ever opened up the rest of a cold 12 pack and poured down the drain.  I've never understood people's like of Heineken either.

Water is good, beer is bad

Water has no smell, it tastes good, and looks clean
Beer smells like some fat guy's ass, (probably) tastes like piss, and it looks like piss

The taste is clear.  Drink water, not piss ;D

Makes me wonder about the health of people on these boards if theirs is the color of beer!! :o

Beer smells worse than a fat guy's ass.  It smells like a fat guy's ass after he's had the runs for a week.

Molson XXX IS sold in the US, but I think it's only available in areas close to Canada. I never saw it anywhere in Chicago in the years I lived there before moving to Ohio, now I can get it at a store around the corner. Same situation with Molson Export. XXX is good, but pricey; I haven't tried Export yet.

Beer in green bottles easily goes skunky when exposed to light. This explains why Rolling Rock, Heineken, Moosehead, Beck's and others often taste like crap in the US.
