Subject: "My TV",a new lame tv network

Written By: woops on 09/24/06 at 11:03 pm

Now that the mediocre WB & UPN have merged, a new network called "My TV" came along with horrible primetime soaps that probably wouldn't last a season.  :P

... UHF stations are a thing of the past

I get neither The WB or UPN, so I guess I won't get My TV either.  a good thing perhaps

Individual networks come and go.  TV NEVER DIES!

I thought the new network was called CW.

That IS the name of the new network.  Not My TV.  Hence the smilie I initially responded with.

Man, all these new networks.  I can still remember the days when ABC, CBS and NBC was all there was (also including CTV and CBC which we Canadians have).  My parents' Zenith TV only had a 13 channel memory ;D

WB and UPN both merged to become the CW.  In markets where there were both UPN and WB stations that left one station as the "odd man out".

Thus the genesis of MyTV network.

MyTV kicks butt.  I watch Judge Alex on my local MyTV outlet.  :)

One question about the CW... will it basically be the "Black Channel" like WB was?  It seems that all the good "Black shows" (usually where the central characters are a black family) were concentrated on the WB.  I don't know why the bigger networks did not pick these shows up as they were pretty good IMHO.  Will I still be able to see those shows at CW? ???

Funnily enough, you sound exactly like the people that were on the 'New CW Network' commericla.s

'Will I still be able to see my favorite shows on the new CW Network?'
"Well Bob, the new CW Network will provide quality programming to millions of households nationwide."
'So will my shows be on it?'
"Thanks for your interest Bob."

I don't think they know.  ;D

Channels 12 and 13 have always had sub-par programming or basically just reruns, but when I was younger, I'd still watch it because we didn't have super extended cable like we do now (500+ channels to choose from). The recent reincarnations are not new to me. A similiar thing happened to a radio station that's been a Bay Area staple for 50 years has now been sold out! KFRC is gone and now it's called "Movin...99.7" A station targeted at 25-44 year old women. Well, I'm not 25 quite yet (still got about 8 months to go), but I decided to give it a listen. It was rather vulgar and they played pretty crappy stuff. I turned the dial within 5 minutes  ;D I guess these are things we'll take notice of and be able to tell the younger generations in our old crochety years... "I remember when..."

I didn't catch the KFRC format change.  Must've happened recently..?

Just a few months back KFRC was 70s/80s..?  Dang...

  Oh yeah, the topic...

My TV, saw a link about it.  New England area.  CW - meh...

Close to a year ago, they changed to the 70s/80s format and now they've dropped the KFRC name completely and have changed to Movin...99.7

On a similar note, a radio station in Los Angeles that has had a country music format for ages and ages has recently dumped that format and changed its name to "Movin'...93.9" (pronounced "ninety-three nine", without the point...a lot of stations seem to do that nowadays).

Yeah, I read their station bio on Wikipedia and I think it said November of 2005 when they changed to the 70s/80s formatting. I liked it at first, but then they were playing a lot of the same stuff within one day and a lot of that music was very common stuff. I found another station on 95.7 and they have excellent programming.

The same company owns our "Movin'" stations (LA and San Francisco). I read it on Wikipedia.

I wonder if there are "Movin" stations all across the USA.

Edit: I'll have to read that Wikipedia blurb sometime. :)

This is from Wikipedia:

KFRC now joins (so far) KQMV/Seattle, KMVN/Los Angeles, KYMV/Salt Lake City and WMVN/St. Louis in embracing the the "MOViN'" concept. It also puts them in a unlikely competition with KISQ, whose Urban AC direction lean towards the Rhythmic and Ol' Skool product that KFRC will now be playing.

I'm sure. I don't know why they keep pushing these lame radio station formats down our throat and calling themselves "new" No, none of it's new. There's like 4 different stations with the exact same format! It's becoming a monopoly!

Pretty much, they cater to the redundant chowder headed middle of the road crowd.. the sorts who are scared to commit to any sort of musical syle for fear that it might not be cool the next week.

Speaking of radio stations, I only listen to 4 radio stations down here:

100.1 FM (oldies)
107.5 FM (smooth jazz)
96.1 FM (classic rock)
97.1 FM (classic rock/oldies/alternative)

That's very true. Many people like that redundancy. It's easy to fall into that trap. I even noticed that the Muzak stations at the Grocery store have more of a variety - lol

I listen to mostly whatever I can find without commercials. But, my favorites are

Max 95.7 (A fantastic station - #1 in my book!)
104.5 KFOG - Everything from the 60's onward.
104.1 (Classic Rock)
101.1 (Classic 70s/80s)
95.3 (Soft Rock)
90.9 (Classical)

Our classical station is 90.1....I listen to it whenever I'm sick and can't sleep.  A little Mozart and I'm gone.

I haven't gotten to check out MY TV yet.

CW is only WB with a name change. They even brought back Seventh Heaven.

My TV is also a new network. It airs soap style shows.  Morgan Fairchild and Bo Derek star ion one of the series.

I think that's called "Fashion House"

Don't change the channel, don't touch that dial,
There's bugger all on UHF!
Put on your sneakers, walk around for a while,
There's bugger all on UHF!
Less fun than your laundry, more boring than your job,
Or downloading porno to yank off your knob!
There's bugger all, (there's bugger all, there's bugger all) on UHF!

Cool. O0 ...for the record, KMVN used to be KZLA before the "Movin" network took over. KZLA, like I said, was a country station for many years; the only times I actually heard it was when I was inside a store or somethin that had its radio tuned to it. I was unaware of this change until just a couple weeks ago.

Maybe I can find info about it on laradio.com.

Just for the heck of it, I decided to see if I could find info on Wikipedia about this particular station changing formats; here's one piece of information that I found interesting:

On August 17, 2006 at 10:20 a.m. Pacific time, KZLA's format was changed to rhythmic adult contemporary music. After the station played "Tonight I Wanna Cry" by Keith Urban to end the old format, KZLA played "Let's Get It Started" by the Black Eyed Peas to start the new one.

Jimmy Steal, Emmis' vice president of programming, cited declining ratings of the country format as well as an opportunity to increase overall station and corporate revenue.

Both KZLA.com and the HD2 feed on 93.9 FM will continue to play country songs. The FM station became KMVN on September 1.

Especially the ones that play music prior to 1960. However, there's still a station near where I live that plays all the old stuff (KVEN-AM, 1450 "The Boomer" in Ventura).
