Yeah, I've kinda wondered the same thing myself about a drug that's more associated with the '00s than any other decade. I'd probably agree it's meth, but weed is sort of a permanent thing that's pretty popular as a social thing (it was a '60s/70s then a '90s/'00s thing - the '80s was the only decade it was basically uncool outside of certain circles, say metalheads).

The rave thing isn't quite as strong as it was a few years ago, although I think that's held on somewhat. That seems to have been really hot around 1997/'98 (I was hearing about it on the news or at school alot around that time). I've never been to one, but I have had friends/acquaintences who are more familar with that stuff, so I could be wrong.

I agree with all your other stuff too. Although the Cheech and Chong/Bob Marley stuff was kinda around for the early '80s too. I'd probably classify the two stoner periods as 1967-1983, and again about 1992+.

In the early 00s, the "new" big drug making the rounds was GHB or liquid ecstasy. That sent a person crazy I tells ya!  :D Too much and it knocks you out cold, but a capful and you're flying.

I still think cocaine is the most predominant overall.

i actually think a lot of drugs are illegal because if people did them they'd adopt a much more spiritual perspective and wouldn't care so much about career and mortgage and two-car garages, and the economy would collapse.

The economy is collapsing, everybody who has a mortgage is refinanced to the hilt, and if you have a two-car garage, you lock it to keep the repo man out!  We Gen X-ers know why certain other classes of drugs are so popular!

I'd say meth makes sense for the 00s, if not pills.

However I disagree with you about ecstasy and the 90s. Ecstacy's heyday was the late 80s and early 90s, was it not? The drug I associate most with the 90s is heroin.

Also, acid was still big in the 70s, and cocaine was big then too. Actually, cocaine and speed are what killed the 60s in a lot of people's minds. Whereas psychadelics make you introspective and want to get along with everyone, meth and coke make one agressive, egotistical and selfish. ::)

I've noticed a major coke resurgence, it's got cheap again. Heroin is still exceptionally popular but actually starting to get more expensive.

I disagree, Ecstacy was huge in the U.K all through the 90's in the U.K, it's still big now. Cocaine is definatly the drug of this decade in the U.K. Meth is only just happening over here.

Right, I've been over here a few months and I was pretty saddened to see the sorry state of affairs.
I knew a couple of skag heads growing up, but not too many, now EVERYONE I know is snorting coke, 'cus it's so cheap.. and I know some of them are going off smoking crack etc. I can't believe that, I've explained so many times.. Yeah, smoke a joint.. sure, snort a line.. but for fu.cks sake, leave Meth and Crack the hell alone.

Well ya know, the nastiest thing about crack is that after that first high.. you can NEVER get the same high again. That's messed up, at least if you're shooting heroin you can up the amount to get the same high.

I leaned over as the waiter was clearing up and said "Can I have that, my food's taking ages." and he agreed. Nice guy, if he was my waiter I might have tipped him.. as it was I left about 12 cents because the waiter was a jerk.
