Subject: 2006: The Best Albums

Written By: whistledog on 12/19/06 at 9:14 pm

What were your favourite CDs/Albums of 2006?

My favourite is "Studio 1" by All Saints.  Along with "Crazy Itch Radio" by Basement Jaxx were the only two CDs I bought for 2006, but thanks to mp3s, I heard a few other 2006 albums.  I liked "Loose" by Nelly Furtado and "Atlantis" by K-OS

Iron Maiden - A Matter Of Life And Death

Agreed.

Best albums of 2006 for me.

A Matter of Life and Death - Iron Maiden
Christ Illusion - Slayer
Come Clarity - In Flames
The Great Cold Distance - Katatonia
Meds - Placebo
Dante XXI - Sepultura
Chicago XXX - Chicago
Kill - Cannibal Corpse
New American Gospel - Lamb of God
The Hardest Way To Make An Easy Living - The Streets
Highway Companion - Tom Petty
Shot To Hell - Black Label Society

Errrr.. those are what I bought this year that I'm really keen on. I tend to listen to an album before I buy it. I can think of a few I thought were great that I haven't got around to buying yet. Sacrament by Lamb of God is a good example.

Let's see if we can find the albums that stand out.

The only full album I got was Weird Al's Straight Outta Lynwood, but there were some good singles, like:

"Over My Head" and "How To Save a Life" by The Fray
"When You Were Young" by The Killers
"I Call it Love" by Lionel Richie (doesn't compare to his 1981-'87 heyday, but good)
"Bad Day" by Daniel Powter (overplayed, but a good pop ballad)
"Sorry" by Madonna
"The Girl Next Door" by Saving Jane
"The Best of You" by Foo Fighters (this might've been late '05?)
"You and Ur Hand" by Pink

Stadium Arcadium is a great album. 3121 is pretty awesome too.

I thought Stadium Arcadium was sub-standard when compared to Blood Sugar or Californication. Highly over hyped, vastly disappointing.

Best ones:
Highway Companion - Tom Petty
On An Island - David Gilmour
Living With War - Neil Young

...and others, those stood out the most for me.

Only three albums have caught my ears this year:

The Love Album, the music of the Beatles, reset by Sir George Martin
An Other Cup ~ Yusuf Islam (formerly Cat Stevens)
Amarantine by Enya, re-released with a Christmas Album.

Actually, that's the only album I got this year too. There were quite a few good albums that came out this year, but ever since I finally got high speed internet, I've mostly just downloaded songs instead of buying the albums.
