Subject: What did you think about 2006?
Written By: batfan2005 on 01/01/07 at 3:12 pm
I would say it was an ok year for me. It wasn't as good as 2004 or 2005, but it had it's fun moments in my life. I thought it was lacking as far as music, movies, and tv went however. It was also a crazy year on the news, and I got tired of hearing about the immigration debate. What really impacted my life and caused a lot of stress was the housing market decline since I'm a homeowner.

Personally, it was a good year. New experiences, new places to see, and we have our own place to live now. :)

Personally, it was a good year (with the exception of Carlos' surgery in June but that paid off-his back is sooooo much better). Globally, it was a terrible year.

I suffered in 2006 for my failures of the preceeding years.
The country is going to suffer in 2007 for its failures of 2006.
A Democratic congress is going into session this month, but they ain't gonna save our sorry azzes!

Pop culturally it was blah (a few good things here and there, but basically a washed-out 2004ish period), but it was a good year on the personal side for me.

I know what you mean. As far as pop-culture goes, I thought of 2006 as the crappier version of 2005. Even though the rock/rap ratio was inverted in the charts in 2006, a lot of the same styles of music continued. Artists like Akon, Ne-Yo, and Chris Brown were the equivalent to 2005's Bobby Valentino, Pretty Ricky, and Omarion. 2006 also had a lot of holdovers from 2005, like the Pussycat Dolls, Kelly Clarkson, the Gorillaz, and Mariah Carey.

2006 wasn't bad. The music from that year was great (especially Lily Allen, McFly and Girls Aloud) and it was also a shame I had to move out of my family home. I started a new college that's not as good asthe one I went to from 2004 - 2005. The most tragic deaths of the year were Steve Irwin and Joseph Barbera. I enjoyed most of the films I saw last year such as Cars, Borat and She's The Man.

Mariah Carey had a hit in 2006? I don;t think Kelly Clarkson had a hit in 2006 nor did Gorillaz. Omarion has had a couple songs out in 2006. CChris Brown, and Akon were around in 2005 as well, Akon did that "Soul Suvivor with "Young Jeezy" in 2005. Akon also scored a hit in 2005 with "Lonely". Chris Brown had a hit with "Run It" in 2005. Ne-Yo was out in real late 2005 I think. To me Ne-Yo is one of only of the real R&B artists out there.
I don;t know the last 9 months of 2006 was better than the second half of 2005/early 2006 music sense. I think late 2005/early 2006 was one of the most boringest periods of music since the teen-pop era of 1999-2000. At least we don;t have to hear DL4, and Dem Franchise Boys or the Grilllz song anymore even though I don;t like Young Jeezy now.

"Walk Away" by Kelly Clarkson is an early 2006 hit. Mariah had "Say Somethin" but it flopped.

The year definitely could have been better. Personally it was pretty lame. There were great moments, like the official launch of a magazine I run w/ a group of friends at SXSW, and moving to LA, but overall it was lame and tame. Haha. I'm not a fan of even numbers, so that probably had something to do w/ it. ;)
'07 has been sweet so far. *crosses fingers*

Yeah, 2006 did have a lameness to it. I reminded me a lot of 1990.
