Subject: Star Trek XI to be Released next Year...

Written By: LyricBoy on 03/04/07 at 7:11 am

Just heard that the 11th Star trek movie is coming out next year.

I wonder what Kirk, Spock, Checkoff, and Uhura will be up to this time? ???

They'll apparently be graduating and then they're going to have a psychedelic party.

Quiet you.

I'm mildly excited.. but at the same time, if you look at the supposed cast this is gonna suck.

I say.. just make another Next Generation movie.. with Q!

Our 40-year mission:  to sell T-shirts, toy phasers, plastic communicators, and anything else we can think of... To boldly suck like no sequel has sucked before!

As a general rule, every odd numbered Trek basically sucked.

Although I will go and see this one, reguardless.  I have seen every Star Trek movie on opening night.  And I am not about to stop now.

But the idea of going back in time to the early adventures of the first cast is slightly problematical.  According to "established" history, Kirk & Spock did not meet (other then maybe in passing) until he assumed command of Enterprise.

And most of the cast (except for McCoy and Scott) are significantly older then Kirk.  And since Spock is a Vulcan, he is normally accepted to be around the age of McCoy (although this has been ret-coned in recent years).

In fact, looking through startrek.com, I see that the birthdates of the crew have been changed dramatically.

Chekov: 2245
Uhura: 2239
Sulu: 2237
Kirk:  2233
Spock: 2230
McCoy: 2227
Scott:  2222

This really skews the age and promotion rates, since in earlier "timelines", the ages were much more scattered.  McCoy was normally around 10 years older then Kirk.  "Cannon" states that Kirk assumed command of Enterprise in 2264, making him 31 years old.  "Cannon" also states that he graduated the Academy in 2254, meaning it only took him 10 years to make Captain (under the new timeline).

The older timeline had him in his mid-late 30's at the time of the TV series, roughly 3-5 years older then the "revised timeline".  In fact, in the 2nd season episode "The Deadly Years", he is stated to be 34 years old.  Under the new timeline, he would have to be at least 2 years younger.  I chat in several "Fan Groups", and a lot of us are confused at the mangling of the accepted timeline.  But this was apparently done to try and make it possible to bring everybody together for this movie.

Odds are, I think it will fail.  Even if the movie is a success, you are going to have the die-hard fans screaming because of the contortions they are going to have to do to make it possible.

I think they would have been better off either trying to do a sequel for "Enterprise", a movie about Christopher Pike (which could have a "young Spock" in it), or do it in some other time (maybe 25+ years after Next Generation-Voyager-Deep Space 9).

star trek needs to be taken out and shot. buried in a shallow grave somewhere. no need to make a big deal out of it, just get it over with.

Et tu, Brute?

Star Trek is like the Illuminati, it will never die.

Why does a tiemline matter when you can go back and forth in time?

Was it Star Trek VI where the crew has to go back to the 1980s America after the whales send a distress signal?  Spock wears a heaband to cover up his ears.

"Who is that ditzy guy you hang out with?"
"He was part of the Free Speech movement at Berkeley in the '60s.  I think he did a little too much LDS."

Yea, that was IV.  Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home.  Or as I called it: Star Trek IV: Kirk & Spock Save The Whales.

And I always loved that LDS quote.  I actually use it all the time.

She just wants a piece of the action.  Maybe by the time Star Trek XVIII is out, the Trekkers'll be asking for a piece of our action.

The choices you present are highly illogical.
