Subject: School sports officials may ban booing...

Written By: loki 13 on 03/04/07 at 8:26 am

In Washington State, school officials may ban booing.

http://www.tdn.com/articles/2007/03/02/top_story/news01.txt

School officials are seriously considering a ban on booing at high school games. It is every fan's right to boo
bad play, bad calls or bad coaching. Heckling the opposing team and refs are part of the home field advantage.
Anyone who attends a game has a right to express the way they feel. I know individuals should show some
restraints by not using abusive language or behavior but an all out ban on booing is ridiculous.

Violence at sporting events is becoming a growing problem, fans interactions with players, coaches and referees
should be stopped but a ban on booing isn't the answer.

How about they ban winning too?  Because the losing team will be all sad and stuff... :\'(

That state is lame. They're also trying to enact a law stating that you have to have children after three years of marriage or else the marriage is null and void.

The whole point of attending sporting events is to berate, physically intimidate and beat up the opposition and/or the oppositions fans.

Guh.

They should do it. It'll make booing and throwing D-cell batteries at the opposition that much more fun.

Dude, that having kids thing is messed up. What's their deal?

So then what's the point of going to a sports event if you can't boo?  The crowd will have to throw eggs instead

I guess this means I have to go across the big pond to a soccer/football game.Violence is not only permitted it's pretty much mandatory ;D

Maybe they should play the games with no spectators. While they are at it, why bother to keep score, that way no one
wins or loses, ergo, no hurt feelings.

Try telling Philadelphia fans they can't boo and see how far you'll get.  ;D

As it should be.

The biggest thing that's happened in Europe in the past 20 years (and 50 deaths) is all grounds must have seats now or face fines.. but nobody sits.

I'll one-up those school sports officials, are you turkeys ready for this:

LET'S BAN HUMAN NATURE!

I mean, just think about all the pain and suffering it causes each and every day!

I think booing is infantile but banning it is even more infantile.  If I don't like something you've done on the field, I don't say anything.  Silence is more damning.

I was watching golf yesterday with my hubby (okay, he was watching it, I was reading ;)) and the fans were "Boo"ing one of the golfers and I was, like, :o  It was all good, though because one of the golfers goes by "Boo" (yes, a grown man using the nickname of "Boo" instead of Thomas) and it was the fans' way of cheering him on ;D

They've got the right attitude. I think those guys should follow the european model and have a firm. They'd be kickass.. guns, knives, ballbats..sweet.

Don't come to a game with me then.. after 3 hours of abuse I finally made Jason Bay snap.  ;D

I don't have a problem with it, actually. The school officials have every right to regulate the conduct of spectators at their sporting events. Considering that it's at the high school level, it probably should be as friendly an atmosphere as possible.

At some sporting events like golf and tennis, spectators aren't supposed to make any noise at all. They'll escort you out if you make any noise.

NOOOOO!! The whole idea of High School is to isolate the weak members of society and punish them for either a) Not being attractive b) Being crappy at sports or c) Just being disagreeable in general!!

And then the nerds get their revenge by taking all the money and employing the jocks as their minions.  It's a vicious cycle.

Pretty much.

That's where being a socially unfit waster works well.

It was hash with the nerds and e's with the jocks.  :)

You won't find this in the handbook of any HS in the U.S., but de facto, I'm afraid Mr. T is right on this one!

Social Darwinism does dictate our culture, so if I had a kid I would teach him to be savage and aggressive in all endeavors, and to establish his dominance by hurting as many inferiors as possible.

Our notions about humanity are very romantic, thus we make the mistake of letting the weak live only to dilute the gene pool with pencil neck geek genes or become a drain on society as retarded, mentally ill, or economically unsuccessful citizens.  You are either an asset or a liability.  We must exterminate what is wasteful and increase what is useful.
