MARILYN MANSON, EVERY DAD'S WORST NIGHTMARE
http://www.thedailyreel.com/news-opinion/reel-focus/marilyn-manson-every-dads-worst-nightmare

Marilyn Manson decided to premiere his new video on the Web, and after watching it's easy to see why. This is one clip that definitely falls under the "Not Safe for Kids" category. Just like Mr. Manson.

The video for the single "Heart Shaped Glasses," stars Manson and his new squeeze, 19-year-old actress Evan Rachel Wood. And they are getting it on, I mean really getting it on. (The camera never ventures below the waist, but Wood's screams seem rather, um, genuine.) The eight-minute clip made its world premiere on the German Web site Sevenload on Tuesday.

Aside from the shock value of simulated sex (some of which features the two lovebirds drenched in blood), the clip certainly has some aesthetic merit, featuring rich, red visuals and a Lynchian tone -- think of it as a homage to hearts: Wild at Heart, Angel Heart, and Lolita. Ms. Wood's heart-shaped glasses of the title are an obvious homage to Mr. Nabokov.

Then again, many will come away thinking it's just cheap shlock.

Whatever your opinion, you'll probably agree that Ms. Wood's days as a cherubic Hollywood teen are certainly in the rearview mirror.

Watch it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=14FxS5x8oFw (NSFW)

Just a little more about the video. It was directed by James Cameron (Terminator) and was filmed in 3D. Obviously you wont see those 3D features on the YouTube video or on TV (if they dare to show this on TV). The new album from which the single comes from (Eat Me, Drink Me) will also be released as a special edition. The special editions comes with a bonus DVD with this video (along with other videos also in 3D) and the special glasses you will need to experience the 3D effects. If you are at all interested in the album, here is a sampler on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVsQfBDgeEc

Mansion is the king of shock.  Should this surprise me?  No.  All though I find Rob Zombie to be more entertaining in his envelope pushing, Mansion has to portray himself as a wuz in able to keep up.

I actually find this video to be quite soft compared to the video he filmed with his ex-wife Dita Von Teese: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXBGl0vzoZA (definitely NSFW)

i liked him before he made it big, i remember this dude at work once brought in a demo from when they were no-names and it had a few songs that ended up on portrait of an american family but on the demo they sounded much better.

i actually think he's pretty smart about suburbia and teen issues and such... he does this song "lunchbox" on american family that i think is just super-super clever. and it rocks too, given that the manson band pretty much plays very generic stock riffs. musically, they're completely dull. i agree with whoever said white zombie is doing much more interesting stuff musically.

funny how all those movies -- well, i can't remember about wild at heart (isabel? your expertise is needed) but wild at heart and lolita are both about men makin' it with women who are much younger than they are. dude, i just wikied manson and he's older than i am!!!! the horndog in me likes the idea of dating a 19-year-old in the abstract but i think mr. manson has missed one of the crucial lessons of lolita -- after a while she started driving humbert humbert up the frickin' wall! i have a feeling we'll be seeing stories of their fiery breakup on the covers of magazines in supermarket aisles within a couple months.

I only really like a few songs of Manson's anyway.  Sweet dreams, beautiful people, tourniquet and a few others.  I liked his creepy edge when he first came out.  Borderline scary video's.  I saw him in concert and wasn't really impressed.  It was actually kind of boring.  It was funnier seeing his cult gothic following, all the kids and such dressing up like him.  I am more a fan of Rob Zombie, have always been a fan since White Zombie.  He's doing a remake of Halloween, that should be intersting.

believe it or not, soft-rock tia has seen both marilyn manson and white zombie in concert. and yeah, like you, i wasn't all that impressed with mr. manson, i found myself looking around at the audience most of the time. he came out on stilts wearing garters and panties. big whoop. white zombie was just straight-ahead, got their rock on, had a big paper-mache skull or something on stage behind em, their bass player was totally sexy and spent a couple of cuts chit-chatting with a couple of folks in front row while she played. i thought that was quite cool.

plus they closed with my all-time favorite white zombie song, "blood, milk and sky." they kinda messed it up but whatever, i just liked that they closed with it, that's always been a really big tune for me and it's pretty obscure for them, so it almost felt like a personal favor to me that they would do that for a closer. i was stoked! that's a good memory. :)

manson would never do a song of that sort, yanno? or a lot of the other things that white zombie did, their music has a breadth of mood and imagery that marilyn manson can't ever get, cuz they're caught up in this vicious cycle of constantly having to reup the shock. it prevents them from having any psychological or artistic depth.

dag, i'm gonna listen to blood milk and sky right now, i think.  8)

yeah! now that's a rock band.

man, you know what blood, milk and sky reminds me of a little? kashmir. it's got that real slow-tempo grind but with the lush prettified vocals and that arid desert-y mix. and it goes on forever. love it, love it, love it. somebody gimme a bong hit!

but i digress. astro-creep 2000 was just a helluvan album.

Marilyn Manson is the worst singer ever.  Can he even be called a singer, cause those sounds coming out of his mouth ain't music, that's for sure lol

He's not so much a singer as he is a front man. But you'd be surprised. His singing is really top notch on some of the new songs (Just a Car Crash Away). I really like how he has humanised himself on this new album. It's a really interesting concept. He said the only time he's ever shown weakness is when he's falling in of out of love. That's why the album has a vampire theme because the myth that the only way to kill a vampire is be stabbing it in the heart. Manson feels the same way about himself. In the metaphorical sense. It's a romantic album. And I really like it. I think overall, this is Manson's best album. The songs are just so good. You really ought to listen to some of the new songs floating around youtube before you pass judgement. This isn't an Antichrist Superstar album. It's not even a Marilyn Manson album. As far as I'm concerned he has grown out of the whole Marilyn Manson thing. Eat Me Drink Me is a Brain Warner album. The very first one.

He will still always be Marilyn Manson though.  I don't think he will ever be able to shed that image

I won't watch it.  It's time for MM to grow up or retire.

Our media is already saturated in the most vile pornography out there.  Manson is throwing a gratuitous feint at capturing "shock value."  It ain't 1994 anymore.  Your demographic and their parents have all watched enough porn to kill a bull moose at 500 paces.  Whatever you're trying to do, Mr. Manson, GG Allin already did in the 1980s...and he was the genuine article.  He wasn't coverting in fake blood with 19-year-old Hollywood starlets, he was rolling in real blood with underaged trailer park groupie girls from frikkin' Claremont, NH.
